The adjacent counties in Mississippi are Kemper to the North, Neshoba is Northwest, Newton in the West, Jasper is Southwest and Clarke to the South.
In Alabama, Lauderdale County adjoins Sumter in the Northeast and Choctow in the Southeast.

Lauderdale County, as recited in the establishing act, was named "in memory of Col. James Lauderdale, who fell in battle at New Orleans".
James Lauderdale, of Tennessee, a member of John Coffee's mounted brigade, was wounded in the battle of Talladega during the Creek Wars and was killed in the night attack on the British below New Orleans on December 23, 1814.
The counties of Lauderdale in Alabama and Tennessee also were named for him.

Ripley was established as the county seat in February 1836 on 62 acres purchased from Thomas Brown and named for General E. Ripley, a veteran of the War of 1812.

As in the Lauderdale County tornado case, these studies generally found peak CG flash rates, which were PSD, about 10 to 20 minutes prior to tornado touchdown and a significant polarity reversal from PSD to NSD around 10 minutes prior to touchdown.
For this Lauderdale County, MS tornado case, the lowest level storm relative velocity data (previously shown in Figure 4) did not show a tornadic circulation.

Many of Mississippi’s small white landowning farmers, also known as yeoman farmers, had not been heavily involved in the cotton economy before the Civil War; however, after the war, a number of factors led the white yeoman farmers to turn increasingly to cotton cultivation.
By 1900, 36 percent of all white farmers in Mississippi were either tenant farmers or sharecroppers (by comparison, 85 percent of all fl farmers in 1900 did not own the land they farmed).
The AAA did provide Mississippi landowners with much-needed cash, and in the 1940s and 1950s, landowners used these funds to take advantage of technological advances that improved their ability to raise crops like cotton.

As a general rule, streets and secondary roads in Lauderdale County (as with most of Mississippi) are rather narrow with pavement in fair to poor condition.
Virtually all secondary highways and most local roads in the county are paved, the county's paving program having began in 1951.
All streets and roads in the county are named, primarily due to Lauderdale County having an E-911 system, but also because of a state law requirement that all road within a county must be named or numbered.

It stands to reason the legend surrounding the naming of the Why Not village in North Carolina and the naming of the Whynot post Office in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, is one and the same.
When the name of "Whitesville" was rejected, these Spinks and perhaps other families remembered their village of Why Not in North Carolina--thus the post office was named "Whynot" For then, it was their way of remembering the old village that they would never see again.

Mary Ann's  father was James Bostick, a revolutionary War soldier.  James was born in 1750 in Queen Anne Co., Maryland and died in 1823 in Richmond County, North Carolina, and was married to Comfort (Mnu) Bostick in 1767.  Comfort  was born in about 1751 and died after 1823.
HAMILTON was born in 1903 in Kemper County, Mississippi.  He married (1432) Martha McKenzie HAMILTON, who is still living in Petal (near Hattiesburg) Mississippi, as of Feb., 2002, although in poor health since 1997, having heart problems and having lost her sight.  She is now being cared for by (1433) Eileen (Hamilton) CARTER.
Paul's Methodist Church in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and commutes there twice a week.  He accompanies students at USM and has been helping his sister with their mother.

The phrase "private correctional facility" is not defined in the Mississippi Code of 1972; however, the phrase "private correctional facilities or services" is found in Sections 47-5-1121, 47-5-1211, and 47-5-1225, and distinguishes between a correctional facility owned by the private sector and a publicly owned correctional facility that is operated by a private entity.
And, pursuant to Section 19-3-55, upon receipt of a petition signed by twenty-five per cent of the qualified electors of the county, a board of supervisors must either put the proposition in force or immediately submit the same to a vote of the qualified electors of the county.
