Launchpad McQuack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Launchpad McQuack is a character created by the Walt Disney Company who first appeared as Scrooge McDuck's pilot on DuckTales, and later in the series Darkwing Duck as Darkwing's sidekick.
But Launchpad was written weakly in these stories, to the point that one reader wrote that in them, "the pilot resembles a weak carbon copy of Donald rather than a character in his own right." In the same comic book, however, a more characteristic Launchpad starred in stories written and illustrated by William Van Horn.
Launchpad remained a regular player in Darkwing's life in the animated series as well as the comic stories based on the series, most of which were published in Disney Adventures.

The show took most of the regular characters from the comic book's cast — Scrooge himself; nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie; wacky inventor Gyro Gearloose; Scrooge's old flame, Glittering Goldie, even Gladstone Gander; as well as the major villains, Magica deSpell, Flintheart Glomgold and the Beagle Boys.
The biggest liberties taken with the cast were to write Donald out and to add an inept pilot, Launchpad McQuack.
Launchpad was created for this series, but went on to act as Darkwing Duck's sidekick, as well as to appear in an occasional comic book story of his own.
