	Launeddas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The launeddas, triple clarinet or triplepipe is a typical Sardinian woodwind instrument, consisting of three pipes.
		Launeddas are used to play a complex style of music that has achieved some international attention, especially Dionigi Burranca, Antonio Lara, Luigi Lai and Efisio Melis; Burranca, like many of the most famous launedda musicians, is from Samatzai in Cagliari.
		Launeddas consist of three reed pipes, two five-holed chanters of different lengths and one drone.

		Its predecessor, the "benas" is a flute made of fen cane with a "trumbitta" (small trumpet) that fits in a resonating pipe with three holes.
		Three fen canes constitute the "launeddas": the "tumbu", which is the longest and is tied to "sa mancosa manna" with a string, and the "mancosedda" or "destrina" on which the melody is played.
		In the past the "launeddas" were widely used to accompany the dances in the squares until they were replaced by the two rows melodeon (a kind of accordion) invented by the Viennese Damian in 1829.

		Infatti, le musiche che sono prodotte dalle launeddas sono quelle antichissime che da sempre hanno accompagnato il popolo sardo nelle danze tradizionali.

		Suo predecessore sono le benas, un flauto di canna palustre formato da una trumbitta che si incastra in un tubo risuonatore con tre fori.
		In passato le launeddas erano ampiamente usate per accompagnare i balli nelle piazze; furono poi sostituite dall'organetto inventato del viennese Damian nel 1829, introdotto in Italia da Paolo Soprani nel 1863 e perfettamente integratosi nel contesto musicale isolano.

		Se ancora oggi si discute circa l'origine bimillenaria delle launeddas, è certo che, sia nella musica sacra che in quella profana, non c'è strumento che sappia infondere emozioni simili.
		Ogni paese del Campidano (le launeddas sono infatti caratteristiche del sud Sardegna) aveva il suo suonatore professionale, un vero e proprio maestro che si esibiva durante le feste.
		Oltreché in questo genere di occasioni, le launeddas trovano posto anche nelle manifestazioni religiose, durante le funzioni della messa e nelle processioni.

		In 1990, he used the launeddas in the soundtrack for the theatrical show "Sa Matta", adapted from a text by Antonio Garau, and, subsequently, started to modify the instrument in such a way that it would produce other, non-traditional notes.
