Hernandez gained much fame in (A self-governing commonwealth associated with the United States occupying the island of Puerto Rico) Puerto Rico during the middle and late (The decade from 1990 to 1999) 1990s as a news reporter.
Hernandez has had chronic stomach disease since she was a child, and her condition worsened the first weeks she was in jail, requiring hospitalization at a medical center outside jail.

In its ruling, the court said the woman, Laura Luis Hernandez, was a victim of domestic violence even if she suffered no physical assault in the United States.
Government lawyers argued that Hernandez was not covered by the Violence Against Women Act because her husband did not beat her in the United States, only in Mexico.
The court said Hernandez, now in her early 40s, was beaten repeatedly by her husband, Refugio Acosta Gonzalez, starting a few months after their marriage in Mexicali in October 1990.

Reading recent news clips about the Higuey prison fire that killed nearly 140 people, I noticed that two accomplices of former Puerto Rican Univision reporter, Laura Hernandez died in the blaze.
But, what ever happened to Laura Hernandez who got caught with 70 kilos of cocaine in her SUV, as she was pulled over by the National Drug Council Police leaving Bavaro back in 2002?
Hernandez got off scott free, while others that were in her SUV the day she got caught, were sent off to hellish prisons.
