Laura Moffatt MP, whose constituency includes Gatwick Airport, said in a Westminster Hall debate that in the last three years the proportion of holidaymakers protected by ATOL has fallen from 90 to 75%.
Laura Moffatt said she welcomed the fact more people can now travel abroad and acknowledged that low cost airlines offer "a highly competitive option".
Laura Moffatt also pointed out that companies not covered by the ATOL rules can avoid the costs associated with holding the compulsory ATOL licence, and said it was important to have a "evel playing field" for tour operators.

The most obvious fact is that, overall, Laura Moffatt's expenses are the lowest of all the local MPs, just behind Nick Gibb and almost £40,000 lower than Andrew Tyrie in Chichester.
Laura claimed nothing, apparently managing to get back to Sussex every day, which is hardly surprising given the distance involved, and really what you would expect.
The reason why this is interesting is that across the country the highest claims for postage were nearly all from Labour MPs in marginal constituencies, leading to the suspicion that they were generating lots more post to boost their prospects (charitable interpretation) or sending out election material paid for by the taxpayer (cynical interpretation).
