Laurence G. Decore (June 28, 1940 - November 6, 1999) was a Ukrainian-Canadian lawyer, politician, former mayor of Edmonton and leader of the Alberta Liberal Party.
Decore graduated from the University of Alberta in 1961 with B.A. in history and political economy, and in 1964 with LL.B. He was an alderman from 1974 until 1977.
Decore was chosen as leader of the Alberta Liberal Party in 1988 and served as leader until 1994.

Decore, also known as Lavrentiy Dikur, was born on June 28, 1940, in Vegreville, Alberta, the son of John Decore, himself a politician and a member of the federal Parliament in 1949-1957, before being appointed superior court judge.
Decore was appointed chairman of the Ottawa-based Canadian Consultative Council on Multiculturalism for a three-year term, joining the vanguard of a nationwide lobbying effort to include language enshrining Canada's multicultural character in Section 27 of the new Constitution, adopted in 1982.
Decore is survived by his wife, Anne Marie, academic vice-president of the University of Alberta; daughter, Andrea, a Calgary-based lawyer; and son, Michael, a teacher in British Columbia.

Decore's remarks appeared in a column by John Geiger entitled "Decore still playing the role of censor." Geiger compared the Mayor's position to that of the Polish Culture Society since they wished to ban the books, while the Jewish Federation wished only to segregate the books.

If Laurence Decore hadn't promised "brutal cuts" in 1993, Nancy McBeth hadn't jumped from the Tory caucus to lead the Liberals, and had not the Liberal caucus been in lockstep with the Tories on the Kyoto Accord, I might be inclined to agree.
Liberal MLA Kevin Taft, authour of 'Shredding the Public Interest' and whose articulate and insightful opposition to Bill 11 got him labeled a 'Communist' by Ralph Klein, is waffling about whether or not he should run for the vacant leadership.
