Janifer was born in Brooklyn, New York with the surname of Harris, but in 1963 took the original surname of his Polish grandfather.

 Laurence Janifer Novels
Laurence Janifer had an SF career spanning 50 years.
Janifer died in 2002, aged 69, and his last novel (as far as I know) was published in 2003: Two, a Gerald Knave novel.
Janifer's "voice", or I should say the first person voice of Gerald Knave, is kind of fun -- very typical cranky "competent man" narrative, with constant sarcastic asides about the folly of humankind (often taking on blatant straw men, but when was it ever otherwise?).

It's reasonable to suppose that the Chandler "novel" was the primary half -- Chandler had a bigger name than Janifer or certainly Treibich (and indeed his name appeared in much bigger print on the cover) and The Rim Gods is the longer of the two halves.
Janifer published a number of stories and novels in a career that lasted from the 50s until his death last year.
Treibich apparently published only the three collaborations with Janifer before his sad death at the age of only 36 in 1972.

Laurence Mark Janifer, 1933-2002 - SFWA News
There was a small paid announcement in the New York Times this morning saying that Laurence Mark Janifer had died on Sunday, age 69.
He was an editor with the Scott Meredith Literary Agency in the '50s, then became a free-lancer in 1957.
He continued to use his birth name until 1963, when he changed it to his old family name, Janifer (apparently, when his grandfather immigrated from Poland, the last name was changed by an immigration officer).

The SF Site Featured Review: The Counterfeit Heinlein
I call the book fan fiction, because it reads like fan fiction, even though Laurence M. Janifer is a professional writer.
It is too cute by half, and the occasional insights: "There are types of motion you learn to notice -- precision and economy, in a way -- that signal the real marksman anywhere" are offset by the use of too many words in almost every sentence.
I'll quote just one line: "You sail too close to the wind of heresy, Frad Golden." Heinlein would have known that to sail close to the wind is to sail speedily, but not necessarily dangerously.

Well, it kept my interest almost to the end, when the solution to the scientific problem set up in the story was revealed in some detail (that is to say, too much detail for my liking).
I personally prefer the Dr. Seuss solution to microscopic creatures being threatened by humans: everyone shouting "We are here!" and only succeeding when a little boy joins in the chorus.
Janifer's approach is for a clever scientist resolving the problem through the interactions between vacuum, radioactive isotopes, and quantum effects, which may be scientifically more rigorous, but far less heart-warming.

On Books: by Paul Di Filippo
The recently deceased Laurence Janifer produced several books featuring Gerald Knave, Survivor, during his lifetime, and the latest book in this series, Alienist (Wildside Press, trade, $15.00, 223 pages, ISBN 1-58715-500-1), shapes up to be Janifer’s final book to see print.
There are no heroics or chase scenes, no interstellar battles or deep philosophical conundrums, but rather just a spirit of old-fashioned sleuthing with a stefnal edge.
At times one wishes Janifer had aspired to higher artistic peaks, but the appreciative reader will be pleased in the end that Janifer felt free to follow his easygoing muse.
