Laverton, a residential and industrial suburb east of Hoppers Crossing and Werribee, is 18 km.
Laverton has a shopping centre near the railway station and a drive-in centre with a council library to the south, across the Princes Freeway.

Located 120 km east of Leonora and 457 m above sea level, Laverton is a goldmining town which, having died in the 1950s, has recently been revitalised by the discovery of nickel and the opening of a major nickel mining operation.
Laverton once had the dubious reputation of being the wildest town in the west.
The last major mine in the area was closed in 1957 and it seemed that Laverton was heading for ghost town status when, in 1969, nickel was discovered at Mount Windarra, 28 km northwest of the town.

Presented this week are two stations in Victoria, Australia, the most southerly state on the Australian mainland and cited by the AGO as being the most greenhouse-sensitive region for future climate change.
Using the above graphs for Laverton and East Sale as a guide, it means that in the next 27 years, both graphs will need to reach the ceiling of the graph (16°C) to fulfil the upper AGO prediction of a 2°C warming by 2030.
Laverton and East Sale are 120 miles apart but have similar trends, so they represent a regional picture of temperature in Victoria.

All Victorian government records of enduring value - the 'archives' - that have been housed at Public Record Office Victoria's Laverton Repository will be relocated to the new premises at North Melbourne.
The precast panels that define the record storage area have been erected and the shape and size of the structure are clearly visible.

On arrival in Australia the aircraft were stored at Victoria Barracks in Melbourne before transfer to Point Cook in February 1914 when the first load of gear was delivered.
The Aviation Medical Section of Station Headquarters and the Medical Training Section of No. 6 RAAF Hospital from Laverton, were united at Point Cook and formed what we know as the School of Aviation Medicine.
The numbers of airmen of different pursuits training in Victorian stations before, during and after the war bears testimony to the decision by the young London barrister H. Petre to select what was once a quiet cow paddock south-west of Melbourne for Australia's first venture into military aviation.

In January 1965 over 30 young men aged 15 to 17 converged on the Laverton RAAF Base near Melbourne in Victoria, Australia in what for most of them was their first taste of life away from their parents.
By the time Gough Whitlam became Prime Minister in 1972 a few had already left the RAAF, and with the new government came an easing of the restrictions on voluntary discharge, so that many 19 course members left the RAAF at that stage.
This was to be the trigger for the remarkable reunion, with a surprisingly high proportion of 19 Course managing to make it back to Laverton for that final passing out parade.
