Cooperatives' activities are based on the principles of voluntary membership of and unhindered withdrawal from the cooperative, the combination of personal, collective, and state interests, economic autonomy, material interest, social justice, and the direct participation of cooperative members in running the cooperative's affairs on the basis of cooperative democracy and socialist legality.
Losses incurred by the cooperative as a result of the fulfillment of directives from state or cooperative organs that violated the cooperative's rights, or as a consequence of the improper fulfillment by cooperative organs of their obligations with respect to the cooperative, shall be reimbursed by these organs.
Cooperatives are run on the basis of socialist self-management, extensive democracy, glasnost, and the active participation of their members in the resolution of all questions of cooperatives' activity.

Cooperatives' priorities in these areas vary, and this is reflected in differing policies on labor and capital investment, as well as in financial policies such as patronage refunds, markups, and discounting.

Cooperative societies are guided by the cooperative acts of 1984, the cooperative rules of 1987 and the by-laws of individual societies framed in accordance with the acts and rules.

A special provision in the law says cooperatives that allocate the deduction to their patrons can compute “taxable income” for this purpose without taking into account their deductions for qualified patronage refund and per-unit retain allocations and the redemption of non-qualifieds.
Cooperative Pass-through Provision The report of the conferees who drafted the final version of the law makes it clear that income derived from manufacturing, production, growth or extraction of any agricultural or horticultural product by a cooperative, or from marketing agricultural or horticultural products by a cooperative, may be included in the cooperative’s QPAI.
Thus, the result is the same for the cooperative as it was before the new law was enacted, the entire $100,000 is deductible.
