A Law Society in Commonwealth jurisdictions is an association of lawyers which has a regulatory role which includes the right to supervise the training and qualifications of lawyers.
Where there is a distinction between barristers and solicitors, solicitors are regulated by the Law Society and barristers by a separate Bar council.
Law societies are often created by legislation and play significant direct roles in the training, licensing and disciplining of lawyers.

The Law Society, which represents 90,000 solicitors in England and Wales, said it wanted ministers to "resolve the plight" of the men.
Law Society chief executive Janet Paraskeva told the BBC "the [Law Lords] have ruled that the government's actions are incompatible with the Human Rights Act and this is something that the Law Society has been pointing out for the last three years."
She said the society understood the reasons for the government imposing the terror laws following 9/11, "but three years on we believe that men should be brought to trial".

Traditionally, the legislative history of a U.S. public law is looked to by federal agencies, attorneys and the courts in order to determine the congressional intent of a particular statute or one of its provisions, especially if the plain reading of the statutory text is somewhat ambiguous.
In the annual volume each public law is summarized, related Congressional reports are abstracted, references are given to related bills as are references to the dates of consideration on the House and Senate floors (there are no CIS abstracts of debates).

 RTE News - Law Society rejects redress board accusations
The solicitors' representative body, the Law Society, has rejected accusations by the Residential Institutions Redress Board that it failed to respond properly to complaints of overcharging.
The RIRB claimed the Law Society could have been more proactive by warning solicitors about deducting money from victims' compensation awards.
However, the Law Society Director General, Ken Murphy, said solicitors do not have to be warned that such behaviour is a disciplinary offence.
