		A sister ship of Garthpool, Lawhill was built for Charles Barrie of Dundee for general trade.
		Sailing under a number of distinguished Åland captains, she is nonetheless best remembered for the accounts written of her by members of the crew, most prominently Alan Villiers, whose Set of the Sails recounts his work as an able-bodied seaman in 1921 en route from France to Australia.
		At the end of a sixty-four-day passage from Bourdeaux, Lawhill ran aground off Port Lincoln, and Villiers was thrown from the fore lower topsail yard and had to be paid off.

		In his book In Deep and Troubled Waters my informant Tony Large remembers the visit to Durban in the mid-1930s of the sailing ship Olivebank due to the fact that his first cousin, Arthur Large, was one of her crew.
		Lawhill was a four-masted steel barque built in 1892 by W.B. Thompson and Co., Dundee.
		She was sold in 1899 together with her sister Jutepolis for £39000 and, two years later, had a narrow escape when her ballast shifted during a typhoon and she was nearly lost.
