Lawrence, the mother of the subject of this review, came to Richland county in 1856, and was one of the early school teachers, teaching a total of twenty-nine years in the county.
Lawrence was married on Feb. 16, 1882, to Miss Grace A. Chandler, daughter of D. Chandler, an early settler in the town of Willow and later a prominent merchant of Richland Center, and to this union there have been born two children: Almira, who married B. Davis and resides at the parental home.
Lawrence has always adhered to the Republican party, and at the present time he is serving his second term as alderman from the third ward in the common council of the city of Richland Center.

James H. Lockwood was the pioneer lawyer in Crawford county, he having settled in Prairie du Chien, Sept. 16, 1816, though he did not engage in the practice of law till several years later, being employed in mercantile business in the meantime.
Charles H. Speck, register of deeds of Crawford county, is the son of Frederick and Louisa Speck, and was born Oct. 9, 1854, in Milwaukee, Wis. He came with his parents to Crawford county in 1860, who settled in Eastman township, where Charles H. was reared on a farm.
Denio was born in St. Lawrence Co., N. Henry Otto, treasurer of Crawford county, and mayor of the city of Prairie du Chien, was born in Rhine-province, Bavaria, Feb. 27, 1831.

The racial makeup of the county was 97.69% White, 0.51% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races.
In the county, the population was spread out with 24.80% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 24.80% from 25 to 44, 24.10% from 45 to 64, and 18.50% who were 65 years of age or older.

Kennecott reentered Wisconsin in the mid-1960's, at about the same time Carl E. Dutton of the United States Geological Survey began conducting a library research program where by all the notes, rock and mineral specimens collected since 1915 were reexamined and compiled.
In the spring of 1968, an extensive exploratory core drilling program began in Rusk County and on November 6th of that year the Flambeau deposit was discovered.
Ground was broken on Wisconsin’s first sulfide metal mine to operate under Wisconsin’s new mining laws in 1992 and on June 28, 1993, the first crushed copper ore was shipped via rail out of state for processing.
