Lawrence Batley, the Huddersfield born and bred millionaire who pioneered the cash and carry business, is not only a shrewd businessman, but a committed patron of the arts and a passionate supporter of local initiatives.
Born in Lockwood, Huddersfield, Lawrence Batley was educated at Birkby Council School and Hillhouse Central School, leaving at the age of 14 to begin his dynamic career.
