In the county, the population is spread out with 24.50% under the age of 18, 8.60% from 18 to 24, 28.00% from 25 to 44, 24.50% from 45 to 64, and 14.40% who are 65 years of age or older.
County coroner: Determines causes of death in certain cases; is the only person with the power to arrest the sheriff.

Lawrence County is named in honor of Captain James Lawrence, the American naval officer whose trips to England in 1811 produced the unsatisfactory answers from the English that led to the War of 1812.
