Lawrence is located in northeast Kansas, on the (A river in northeastern Kansas; flows eastward to become a tributary of the Missouri River) Kansas River, and southwest of (A city of northeast Kansas on the Missouri River adjacent to Kansas City, Missouri) Kansas City.
Lawrence is also the hometown of such luminaries as (United States writer (1902-1967)) Langston Hughes and (United States writer noted for his works portraying the life of drug addicts (1914-1997)) William Burroughs.
Lawrence's culture isn't just political activism and the arts; the town is famous for the University of Kansas's athletic teams as well.
