  Lawrence Sheriff - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lawrence Sheriff or Lawrence Sheriffe (c1510-1567) was an Elizabethan gentleman and grocer to Elizabeth I who founded Rugby School.
Sheriff was apprenticed to a by his father to a London grocer named William Walcott, at which point he went to London, his apprenticeship ended in 1541, and he became a London grocer during the reign of King Henry VIII.
He is remembered today by the Lawrence Sheriff School in Rugby.

Lawrence Rainey was the forty-one-year-old, gruff, barrel-chested, tobacco-chewing sheriff of Neshoba County in 1964.
He was arrested in December of 1964 on charges of conspiring with at least eighteen other persons to deprive three civil rights workers of their civil rights.
What is highly likely, given the close relationship between the sheriff and his deputy and their common hatred of civil rights workers, is that in that meeting Rainey was told in detail of the successful execution of the conspiracy to murder Schwerner, Goodman, and Chaney.

QUESTION The Lawrence County Commission and the Lawrence County Sheriff would like to know if, under the circumstances, there is any legal obligation on the part of the Sheriff to accept city prisoners from the Town of Hillsboro or the Town of North Courtland due to a nonpayment of these court costs and fees.
At the present time the Lawrence County Sheriff is accepting city prisoners from the two towns; however, Lawrence County does not have a written contract or agreement with the two municipalities to accept or house their prisoners.
The Lawrence County Commission adopted a resolution on June 26, 1995, imposing the additional fees of $35 and $5 as authorized by Act No. 95-119 to be collected in cases filed in the circuit court, district court, and any municipal court in the county.

In the volume The Landed Gentry, the authors claim that the family line stems from a Lawrence Sheriff, of whom Sir William Shreve is a nephew.
Sir William Sheriff, the first of the line of whom we have definite record, is believed to have been a nephew of Lawrence Sheriffe, who, in 1567, founded Rugby School, in England (Hornor, 348).
Hornor’s identification of the Shreve ancestry with Lawrence Sheriff supports the ancestry given in The Landed Gentry, except that the latter does not mention Oara Oara and says that William who married Elizabeth was born about 1587.
