Lawrence was born in Tremadog, Caernarfonshire, North Wales, of mixed English and Scottish ancestry.
Lawrence's intimate knowledge of the Arab people made him the ideal liaison between British and Arab forces and in October 1916 he was sent into the desert to report on the Arab nationalist movements.
According to Lawrence's RAF enlistment medical file of March 12, 1923, he was 5 ft 5.5 in (1.66 m) tall, weighed 130 lb (59 kg), had "scars on his buttocks", "three superficial scars on lower part of his back" and "four superficial scars left side." He was also circumcised.

Lawrence, unlike his depiction in the film, was far from a pacifist before the war; indeed, he was a crack shot with a pistol (his preferred weapon being a Colt.45 Peacemaker) and enjoyed practicing at shooting ranges when he could.
Much of the missing dialogue involves Lawrence's writing of poetry and verse, alluded to by Allenby in particular, saying "the last poetry general we had was Wellington." Lawrence's first meeting with Allenby in Cairo was significantly shorter, and the scene in Jerusalem where Allenby convinces Lawrence not to resign existed in only fragmented form.

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA in its final scenes gives hints of those future developments by showing British and French government becoming aware of oil importance and making sure that the lands with these precious resources remain under their control.

Considering that Lawrence of Arabia teetered on the brink of extinction 15 years ago (and was rescued by restoration authority Robert A. Harris, who also provided extensive input for this DVD release), the sharpness, detail and vivacity of this Superbit effort is nothing short of extraordinary.

While the taking of Aqaba is a monumental achievement, Lawrence finds his greatest challenge during his time in the desert to be uniting the various Arab tribes, who would just as soon make war on each other, as they would the Turks.
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA is truly one of the greatest, if not the greatest motion pictures of all time.
