Lawrie McMenemy MBE (born Gateshead 28 July 1936) is a football coach and former player, best known for his spell as manager of Southampton F.C. Lawrie McMenemy is rated in the Guinness Book of Records as one of the twenty most successful managers in post-war English football.
McMenemy then moved to Sheffield Wednesday F.C. where he spent two years as a coach before he got his big break as manager of Doncaster Rovers F.C. where he remained until May 1971.
Since 2000, McMenemy has concentrated on his role as FA special ambassador, travelling to Afghanistan in 2002 to help set up a national league and liaising with the English team in the Special Olympics.

Former Southampton manager Lawrie McMenemy has praised current Saints boss Gordon Strachan for resurrecting the club's fortunes and leading them to mid-table security after several years of fighting relegation.
During Big Lawrie's 12-year tenure - 1973-85 - The Saints won the FA Cup, were runners-up in the League Cup, earned promotion to Division One and even came close to winning the title in 1984, finishing three points behind champions Liverpool.
Lawrie's own relationship with the club is not as warm as he would like, which he says is due to the attitude of the directors towards him, although he has been back occasionally and admits the manager and the fans have given him a great reception.
