About Amblyopia -- What is Lazy Eye? Blindness in One Eye, Not the Same as Strabismus
Lazy Eye and Strabismus are not the same condition.
Amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye, is the eye condition noted by reduced vision not correctable by glasses or contact lenses and is not due to any eye disease.
Many people make the mistake of saying that a person who has a crossed or turned eye (strabismus) has a "lazy eye," but lazy eye (amblyopia) and strabismus are not the same condition.

Lazy evaluation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In computer programming, lazy evaluation, also called delayed evaluation, is the technique of delaying a computation until such time as the result of the computation is known to be needed.
The benefits of lazy evaluation include: performance increases due to avoiding unnecessary calculations, avoiding error conditions in the evaluation of compound expressions, the ability to construct infinite data structures, and the ability to define control structures as regular functions rather than built-in primitives.
Another example of laziness in modern computer systems is copy-on-write page allocation or demand paging, where memory is allocated only when a value is stored in those memory is accessed.

 Hibernate: Understanding Lazy Fetching
Lazy collections have been around for a while in Hibernate, and they are the most commonly important form of lazy fetching.
In general practice, lazy collections and associations are managed by Hibernate transparently, to the point that you as a developer never have to worry about the fact that objects are only being loaded 'as you need them'.
Lazy loading is useful, but may lead to problematic scenarios in the example you provide, because you may put togheter an inconsistent view of the data in your database.

ONJava.com -- Lazy Loading with Aspects
Lazy loading is a characteristic of an application when the actual loading and instantiation of a class is delayed until the point just before the instance is actually used.
Lazy loading is really an overall policy that should be adopted for the loading and initialization of declared types of objects, and therefore it is not directly related to the business logic of the application.
All lazy loading is controlled by the Aspect, modularizing the concern and providing a single place for lazy-loading policy enforcement.

P of EAA: Lazy Load   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
However, if you take this to its logical conclusion, you reach the point where loading one object can have the effect of loading a huge number of related objects - something that hurts performance when only a few of the objects are actually needed.
A Lazy Load interrupts this loading process for the moment, leaving a marker in the object structure so that if the data is needed it can be loaded only when it is used.
Lazy Initialization uses a special marker value (usually null) to indicate a field isn't loaded.

 The Lazy K Programming Language
Lazy K programs live in the same timeless Platonic realm as mathematical functions, what the Unlambda page calls "the blessed realm of the pure untyped lambda calculus." Just as garbage collection hides the process of memory management from the programmer, so referential transparency hides the process of evaluation.
The reason this works is that the Lazy K interpreter uses lazy evaluation, which by definition tries to produce output as early as possible and do everything else (including input) as late as possible.
Lazy K version of the "print the Fibonacci sequence as rows of asterisks" example from the Unlambda distribution.

I realized that, paradoxically enough, good programmers need to be both lazy and dumb.
Lazy, because only lazy programmers will want to write the kind of tools that might replace them in the end.
Lazy, because only a lazy programmer will avoid writing monotonous, repetitive code – thus avoiding redundancy, the enemy of software maintenance and flexible refactoring.

 Lazy Evaluation
The most important thing with lazy evaluation is that it provides new means to solve programming tasks: for example, parts of program can easily communicate with the help of potentially-infinite data structures.
In lazy evaluation, evaluation of the argument is deferred until it is needed, at which point the argument is evaluated and its result saved (memoized).
Should also be noted that strict-order evaluation (as well as lazy evaluation) can be achieved in a language which supports normal-order evaluation via explicit memoing.
