Lazlo Toth (died September 19,1952) was a Hungarian journalist who, along with Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty, was convicted of treason by a kangaroo court shortly after World War II

Lazlo is a funny as ever, but the responses he receives aren't as funny as in his other books.
The addressees of Lazlo's letters are probably two-thirds politicians, such as Al Gore and Dubya, and one-third "other." Other addressees range from companies such as the maker of Hungry Man dinners to Queen Elizabeth II to Saddam Hussein.
Often, the replies to Lazlo's letters are just as funny as his original letters, especially when the reply has absolutely nothing to do with what Lazlo said, which is something everyone has experienced when writing a letter to a politician or corporation.

However, the conventional wisdom is that the Lazlo in Lazlo's career is John Shotwell their sound man prior to Cal, (actually prior to Trevor, prior to Cal but that is nitpicking).
Correction - the FAQ actually states that while Lazlo is the nickname of John Shotwell, it is not the Lazlo in the song.
And I quoteth from the FAQ: "Lazlo the Soundman is said NOT to be the Lazlo from "Lazlo's Career", and that that Lazlo is a sprite that follows the Frubus around." So I believe the song is still open to interpretation.

Novello wrote on and off for Saturday Night Live for years (he is often credited with the "cheeseburger, cheeseburger" sketches, among others) and sometimes appeared on the show, or on other programs as Sarducci.
In yet another identity, he was Laszlo Toth, author of a brilliant book entitled The Lazlo Letters, which actually defies description but I'll try: Novello made up a character named Lazlo Toth, named after Laszlo Toth (note the different spelling), the latter being the man who took a hammer to Michelangelo's Pieta.
What Novello's Toth wrote was almost as destructive.
