The most successful marque in the history of the 24 hour race is Porsche, with 16 overall victories (including seven in a row, from 1981 to 1987), followed by Ferrari with nine (including six in a row, from 1960 to 1965).

The races used to begin with what became known as the "Le Mans start": cars are lined up on one side of the track, drivers on the other, with the drivers running across the track to their cars as the race commences.
The Le Mans start is also the reason why Porsche street cars continue to have their ignition switches on the left of the steering column rather than the more customary location on the right — this was easier to reach and enabled the driver to start the car more quickly.
The 24 hours were cancelled in June after the May 1968 events the race was ran in September being the last race of the championship.

In 1964 when it first competed at Le Mans it failed in its attempt to conquer the event, this was mainly due to the failure of a temporary gearbox that had to be used whilst its intended ZF box was being manufactured.
In 1966 Ford were back at Le Mans this time with the Mk.2 car with its 427 cubic inch (7 litre) engine and of course the ZF box and it took the first three places in the now famous formation finish.

The AI in Le Mans is fully adjustable - if you struggle with braking, you're allowed to have computer aided braking and turning, as well as computer aided steering - plus you can adjust this level to give the computer less say, or no say at all.
Le Mans offers 2 different control schemes at the same time - the DC style of using the top triggers (which is rather uncomfortable on a PS2 Dual Shock, anyway), and the traditional use of the X and Square buttons.
While the graphics in the PS2 Le Mans are spectacular on their own they fall a little short of the DC versions.

For those that don't know, the 24 hours of Le Mans is an annual event run for 24 hours to see who can finish the most laps, and cars from different classes are on the track at the same time, trying to win their category and do as well outright as possible.
The time of day will change based upon the length of the race and the time scale you're racing in (you could race the full 24 hours of Le Mans in half an hour or so with the sky darkening and lightening fairly quickly).
On Le Mans itself, a ferris wheel is lit up with a rotating red glow as you zoom by.

This Le Mans is more like coming down from a caffeine binge than the exciting beginning, especially when there are fresher drugs, err… games, like "GT3" just waiting to be played.
