Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro)
Figaro, the servant of the Count, and Susanna, the maid of the Countess, are measuring the room they have received from the Count to use as their bedroom.
Figaro tells them to hide until he gives the signal and then Figaro moves to another part of the garden, still defending the jealousy of men and determining not to trust women.

The Marriage of Figaro - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The music of Figaro's Act One finale aria, Non piú andrai, is used as the regimental slow march of the Coldstream Guards of the British Army and is quoted in the second act of Mozart's opera Don Giovanni.
Figaro then arrives and hatches a plan to trick the Count: Susanna will give him a note indicating she wants to meet him that night in the garden; Cherubino will be waiting there, dressed as a woman; and the Countess will arrive and catch him red-handed.
Figaro sees the note with the pin in it, assumes it is from another of the Count's trysts, and laughs to himself.

 Le Nozze Di Figaro
Figaro is taking the dimensions of a room, and the first motive of a duet illustrates his measured paces; Susanna is trimming a hat, and her happiness and her complacent satisfaction with her handiwork are published in the second motive, whose innocent joy explodes in scintillant semi-quavers in the fiddles at the third measure.
Figaro had pressed such a flattering unction to his soul, but now recalls, with not a little jealous perturbation, that the Count had planned to take him with him to London, where he was to go on a mission of state : "He as ambassador, Figaro as a courier, and Susanna as ambassadress in secret.
Figaro, in his hiding place, listening and suspecting her of awaiting the Count's arrival, throws a cross-light on the situation, which, however, only receives its full dramatic signification by reason of the truth of Susanna's expression of feeling.

Synopsis of Le Nozze di Figaro - the Metropolitan Opera
Figaro returns with fellow servants, who praise the Count's progressive reform in abolishing the droit du seigneur — the right of a noble to take a manservant's place on his wedding night.
Figaro, who has run in to announce that the wedding is ready, pretends it was he who jumped from the window, faking a sprained ankle.
Later, during the marriage ceremony of Figaro and Susanna, the bride manages to slip the note, sealed with a hatpin, to the Count, who pricks his finger, dropping the pin, which Figaro retrieves.

 W. A. Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro - Cambridge University Press
Le nozze di Figaro (1786) was Mozart's first mature opera buffa.
Unlike Don Giovanni (1787) and Così fan tutte (1790), Figaro has few obvious problems, and even if it is not without flaws, it nevertheless contains a remarkable mixture of all those elements that go to produce a good opera: a sound plot, a well-structured text and fine music.
This opera handbook examines the work from historical and musical perspectives, to set it in the context of Mozart's age.
