  Leahi History
Leahi Hospital continued to emphasize geriatric long-term care services to the point where the first clients were admitted to the Adult Day Health Center in the early 1990’s.
Also located on the grounds of Leahi Hospital are an inpatient Hansen's Disease unit, Departments of Tropical Medicine and Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, and the UH School of Medicine AIDS/HIV research center.
Leahi was purchased by the State of Hawaii in January 1969 and placed under the University of Hawaii.

The Leahi Soccer Club '87 Under-14 girls team had a successful trip to Minnesota last month, coming home with its division championship trophy from the All-American Girls Tournament Cup, a first for a Hawaii team.
Leahi swept through its 24-team division in the All-American Girls Tournament at Blaine, Minn., with a 6-0 record.
Leahi also participated in the USA Cup and were placed in the top of three brackets.

Leahi Blue won in dramatic fashion yesterday to become the first team from Hawai'i to claim a championship at the United States Soccer Federation National Veterans Cup.
Leahi Blue defeated Mojo from Orange County, Calif., 1-0, in overtime in the women's over-30 division at the seventh United States Adult Soccer Association's national championships for players older than 30.
Leahi Blue is one of 58 teams from 17 states competing in the tournament that concludes today at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex.

 ROBERT NOAH PERLSTEIN
From 1925 to 1926 Dr. Perlstein interned at Los Angeles General Hospital, and a residency in tuberculosis was served at Los Angeles Sanitarium in 1927-1928.
On September 28, 1945 Dr. Perlstein was appointed associate medical director of Leahi, and on July 1, 1951 he became assistant medical director.
Together with Dr. William F. Leslie, he invented a three-way pneumothorax machine which was used successfully at Leahi and other hospitals during the heyday of collapse therapy.
