Topic: Leamouth

In the News (Tue 29 Dec 09)

  Leamouth
A second incarnation of the house became a pub early in the eighteenth century.
Leamouth’s most enduring employer was the Corporation of Trinity House, which occupied the tip of the eastern peninsula from 1803 to 1988.
Most of Leamouth has so far been relatively unaffected by docklands regeneration but sooner or later it is likely to succumb to redevelopment in the form of office towers or upscale apartments.

 Leamouth Bridge Competition: Press
At present, access to the Leamouth Peninsula is severely limited, with residents and visitors finding it difficult to make the most of the area's amenities and potential.
The bridge, for pedestrians and cyclists, will breathe life into one of the most underused areas of the Capital and connect the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with Newham's Arc of Opportunity, helping to create a new urban quarter in a part of Docklands that has been overlooked by previous regeneration programmes.
As part of the competition, each of the design teams will lead an architectural workshop in a local school, and all six designs will be on view to the public at an exhibition at Trinity Buoy Wharf from 23 June to 14 July, just before the jury makes its final decision.

The Leamouth Regeneration Framework marks the first major example of cross-borough working between Newham and Tower Hamlets and provides the opportunity for further cross-borough working to ensure that the Lea Valley is considered as a unifying feature rather than a barrier between areas.
A subsequent commission involved the preparation of a Development Framework for the Leamouth Peninsula as a new mixed use urban quarter which could act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider area.

In July 1999 a roughly spherical stone with a hole through it was recovered from the reject stone pile at CEMEX’s Leamouth Wharf in Southampton.
Even if the object was fashioned, selected and/or deposited by people, there is no way of gauging when this might have happened.
The attentiveness of the staff at Leamouth Wharf, and the willingness of CEMEX to seek archaeological advice, helped to show that a voluntary, industry-based reporting protocol could be effective.

The study also looks at the water supply of the Peninsular, explaining that rainwater could be harvested through Gravel Bed Hydrophonic trenches and used for landscape irrigation or to recharge the water used in the Aquifer.
