  Leander Paes
Leander Paes was a part of the professional circuit and started representing India in the Davis Cup fixtures from 1991.
Leander`s mother, Jennifer Paes, represented Indian in basketball and was also the captain of the Indian team in the 1980 Asian Basketball Championships.
For his great contribution to Indian tennis, Leander was conferred upon with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in the year 1996-1997.Some years in later on in 2001, the prestigious Padma Shri award was also bestowed upon him.

Chennai: Leander Paes will miss the Chennai Open ATP tennis tournament as the veteran Indian decides to to go with the choice of his partner Martin Damm of the Czech Republic to play in the Doha Open, another ATP season opener played simultaneously from January 1 to 7.
This would be the only second time that Paes would be missing the Chennai event in the past 12 years, the previous occasion being in 2004 due to injury.
