The Learning and Skills Council is an non-departmental public body of the Department for Education and Skills in the United Kingdom and is responsible for planning and funding further education (post-16 education and training other than higher education) in England.
The LSC has headquarters in Coventry with 9 regional offices and 47 local offices.
It is likely that this configuration is changed in late 2005 as part of the Agenda for Change programme resulting in more of a streamlined formation with more focus on the regional dimension with the loss of around 1300 jobs (500 from the Coventry HQ, the remainder from local offices).

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has called for co-operation between the public and private sectors to broaden access by all post 16 learners to electronic learning and skills provision.
In a press release on the LSC web site, the Council states its intention to expand e-learning opportunities across all provision within its remit - in colleges, school sixth forms and in the community and the workplace - ensuring a breadth of e-learning opportunities across the sector.
The LSC press release further stresses the partnership between the LSC and the DfES, outlining their aim to produce a joint implementation plan to set priorities for the next three to four years.
