The Leaside Station was destroyed by a fire in the 1940's and was rebuilt in 1946.
In 1967 The Town of Leaside was amalgamated with East York to become THE BOROUGH OF EAST YORK and in 1997 was amalgamated into the new megacity of TORONTO.
In spite of this, Leaside has retained its sense of community and its real estate is highly valued particularly amongst young families who value its schools and recreational facilities.

Here a connection was built for southward to westward (or east to north) movements to Donlands (2.2 miles) where it connected with the CPR to reach Leaside another 1.3 miles and completed in June 1917.
It also had use of common tracks from Leaside to North Toronto and over the north service track along with exclusive rights to traffic from local industries on the north side between Avenue Road and Dovercourt Road.

 The Town of Leaside
The Town of Leaside was unique in Ontario as it was the only town which was planned in complete detail before a single building was erected and which grew to fulfil its plan pretty well as designed.
In 1825 one other town, Adolphustown, in Prince Edward County, came very close in detail of planning to that of Leaside, but never really reached the planned potential and is still just an unpretentious village.
After the war, Leaside became a important bedroom community for the city and by 1967, when it was merged with the Township of East York to become part of The Borough of East York, it was over 20,000.
