The last known nesting in Michigan was at Burnt Bluff, Delta County, in 1957 (D. Berger and H. Mueller, in J. Hickey (ed.), Peregrine Falcon Populations, 1969:119-120; JPW 53:77, 1975).
Birds were found in northern Lower Michigan as recently as 1973-1974, with specimens in CMU from Torch Lake in Antrim County and in Grand Traverse County as well as from Isabella County.
Michigan birds were recovered in winter both in Michigan and Ohio and as far as Virginia (1) and Albama (1).

Leavitt began the day at North Allegheny School District's McKnight Elementary School in McCandless to announce that the administration is asking for $60 million to reduce unhealthy school bus exhaust in 220 school districts nationwide.
Although Leavitt said the mercury reduction goal is "an aggressive target," the administration's proposal falls short of the 90 percent reduction in mercury emissions by 2008 proposed by the Clinton administration and endorsed in December 2001 by Whitman.
Leavitt, who repeatedly said he is "in the enforcement business," dismissed recent published reports that show the agency's law enforcement rate is 58 percent lower than during the Clinton administration.

In a letter to a U.S. senator from Michigan, Michael Leavitt, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator, said the Washington, D.C.-based agency is considering measures to gear up for a potentially active role in overseeing trash imports from Canada.
Members of the Michigan congressional delegation disagree, but they are spearheading legislation that would explicitly give the EPA the authority it says it needs.
First, the EPA is contemplating giving the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality a one-time grant to fund efforts to ensure that Canadian trash meets the state's landfill and environmental laws.

As you may know, President Bush has announced the nomination of Governor Mike Leavitt of Utah to be the new Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Last year, Canadian trash trucks dumped 6,607,856 cubic yards of waste on Michigan landfills, and those numbers are expected to be significantly higher for 2003.
I expect to meet with Governor Leavitt during his confirmation hearings in the Senate, and I will present him with the petitions that have been signed by tens of thousands of Michiganians over the summer.
