Lechmere (MBTA station) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As most if not all existing subway service from the south and west looped at Park Street, a new service was inaugurated between Lechmere and the Pleasant Street Portal.

 Orange Line (MBTA) - Enpsychlopedia
(Cars throughout the Boston rapid transit network were formerly painted orange or with orange stripes by MBTA predecessors, and restored streetcars on the Ashmont-Mattapan High Speed Line wear their historical orange livery, but this is largely coincidental.) In April 1987, the Washington Street El south of the Essex (Chinatown) station was closed.
All stations on the Orange Line are handicapped accessible, though State is not fully accessible on the Blue Line.
It connects with Amtrak and Commuter Rail service at Back Bay and North Station.

 Cambridge, Massachusetts
It is often referred to as "The People's Republic of Cambridge" because of the city's famously liberal politics; political organizers often congregate at the Red Line T station in Harvard Square.
Lechmere Square, at the junction of Cambidge and First streets, adjacent to the Galleria shopping mall.
It is served by the MBTA red line subway.

 Boston.com / Real estate / 15-year, 3-city NorthPoint project kicks off today
The entire project, which would include a new, relocated Lechmere MBTA station on the Green Line, is expected to develop roughly 20 buildings and take 15 years to complete.
The park and two condo buildings contemplated in the first phase would be near an existing neighborhood in the Lechmere section of Cambridge, not far from the Museum of Science and CambridgeSide Galleria, said Ken Greenberg, the project's master planner and principal of Greenberg Consultants of Toronto.
The project's second phase is likely to be the development of two office and lab buildings near Gilmore Bridge, said Lisa S. Serafin, a Spaulding and Slye Colliers vice president.

 North Station (Boston) - Enpsychlopedia
As of early 2005, very little remained of the old station and construction began to restore full Green Line service and connect the temporarily closed Science Park and Lechmere stops to the new underground station.
Note: Several MBTA commuter rail lines plus Amtrak's Northeast Corridor service to New York City and Washington, D.C. do not stop at North Station.
The Fitchburg Railroad station was on the other side of the Boston and Maine Railroad approach, right next to Beverly Street, the approach to the Warren Bridge.

 MBTA Subway Cars
Breda complains that MBTA is having some problems with derailment and not San Francisco and blames MBTA due to improper or faulty tracking on its lines; MBTA is pointing the finger at Breda for building cars with faulty wheel casings.
The oldest MBTA Orange Line cars still around, not necessarily on MBTA property, are the Pullman-Standard Type #11 (01100-series) subway cars, two of which are stored at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine.
The cars with the singing voice as they enter and leave the station are the more recent 1994 Bombardier #3 Red Line (01800-series) subway cars with General Electric AC Traction motors, prerecorded announcements, LED interior information signs, LCD exterior signs, and stainless-steel carbodies.

NETransit: Abandoned Stations, Tunnels, and Station Entrances found on the MBTA
The remains of the station not torn down were converted to parking and still later into a new electrical sub-station for the Green Line.
There are closed off passageways which still connect the former surface station area with the fare collection area, and with the northbound platform of the Green Line station.
The incline and tunnel that the streetcars used, to enter the station, is now occupied by an escalator to the surface.

NETransit: 100 Years of the Tremont Street Subway
All of the station platforms on the Green Line are to be raised about eight inches to reduce the step between the edge of the new car and the platform.
The original station is still visible today, as cars to Park Street presently travel across the remnants of the old platform as part of the North Station construction.
By 1971 the MBTA was dissatisfied with the new color scheme, and was repainting cars in either the MTA's tangerine, cream, and silver, or the MBTA's in-house brew of green and white with grey trim.

 G.O.A.T. - MBTA Absurdity
I don't understand how they can get bunched-up like that if they all leave from a station at the right time, they should still be ten minutes apart no matter how heavy traffic is. It's the trip duration that changes because of traffic, and the schedule accounts for that (or it's supposed to).
All MBTA buses now sport this highly visible sign, which I interpret to mean that passengers always enter via the front door and exit via the rear door.
Personally, I think passes should be sold at most stations, and at least on weekends when the last or first day of the month falls on the weekend.

 Airport MBTA Station
Signs are crafted by a 125 year old troll living in the depths of Boylston Station using scrap metal from Breda Type 8s and fallen debris from the peeling ceilings, and written with instruments dropped from the pockets of disgruntled commuters.
Incoming visitors to our fair city are met with cardboard signs at the Airport MBTA station.
MBTA officials assured me that it would be dealt with immediately.

According to Ralph F. Cox, senior vice president of Spaulding and Slye Colliers and the project manager for North Point: "This is a giant step forward toward advancing the design of the new MBTA Lechmere Green Line Station.
Mar 3 2004, 07:45 PM Lechmere has always been a little too close to the museum of science stop and North Station so it would be better a little bit east but I bet alot of people in East Cambridge will miss there easy back door entrance.

 Boston.com / News / Local / Mass. / School choices
The Planning Board last week held a second public hearing to discuss a 200-unit housing development proposed for the former Haviland candy factory on First Street across from the Lechmere MBTA station in East Cambridge.
In response to earlier concerns of the board and residents, developers reduced the number of units by 11, increased parking spaces by four, to 202, and added two more three-bedroom units for a total of eight.
Citing the need for more study and neighborhood input, residents had objected to an earlier recommendation by Fowler-Finn to relocate the school central office to Graham and Parks.

The impetus was a recent announcement by the MBTA that it will close the Green Line stations at Lechmere, North Station, and Science Park for one year beginning June 19, to complete work under the Fleet Center on the North Station superstation, and rearrange the above ground track.
ACN members, from neighborhood associations throughout the City, hope that the Federal contribution to the moving of the Lechmere Station, will be used by NPLC to free up at least equal funds to provide these amenities.
But, under its agreement with Cambridge, the developer must cover the full cost of the new Lechmere station (estimated at $40 million).
