The text is from the NRSV translation of the Bible (except for the Episcopal Psalm, which is from the US Book of Common Prayer) and is in RTF format, which is editable by nearly all word processors.

It assumes, without demonstration, the shortcomings of the eucharistic lectionary; it ignores the relation between the offices and the eucharist; it overlooks the coherence of the whole programme of the use of scripture in the common prayer tradition; it asserts the primacy of one form of eucharistic piety (Anglo-Catholic) while disparaging another (Evangelical).
In a certain way, the main accomplishment of the 1871 lectionary was the impetus it gave towards two things: first, the establishment of a fully developed Sunday office lectionary; and second, the reordering of the daily office lectionary upon the principles of the ecclesiastical year.
The 1922 lectionary was a significant achievement, but it was a revision which took place within the common prayer tradition and served to strengthen and make more explicit the doctrinal basis of the use of scripture within that tradition.

Indeed, such occasional departures are within the best traditions of lectionary preaching, since the lectionary was never meant to be a forced march, but a path that each year would walk the Church through her festivals and visit the chief doctrines of the Faith.
The lectionary did not fall into either of these categories, and thus was retained with only slight revision by the Lutherans: They added propers for Trinity 25 and 26, eschatological lessons meant to connect the end of life with the end of all things.

That many Christian denominations have the lectionary in common (albeit in different versions) is indicative of ecumenical advances.
Rather than the communal memory of the Catholic model, in which lectionaries of one kind or another have long mediated the Scriptures, the Protestant model knows the Bible as a continuous narrative in print form.
The Bible itself structures the memory of the church in a dynamic encounter with the congregation at worship.

Indeed, of all the lectionaries the Historic is the most well-organized; there is even method in the seeming madness of the Trinity season.19 What is perhaps the greatest asset today is the fact that it is a one year lectionary.

Jewish-Christian Relations :: Removing Anti-Jewish Polemic from our Christian Lectionaries: A Proposal
There are 19 selections that are blatantly anti-Jewish in the Lectionary for Mass that were not in the "historic pericopes." The liturgical specialists who developed the Lectionary for Mass obviously did not apply the principles and the spirit of Nostra Aetate to their process of lectionary formation.
During the interval between the publication of its A Four-Year Lectionary in 1990 and the ninth Sunday before Christmas 1992, however, church leaders in the United Kingdom prepared and implemented a United Kingdom adaptation of the Revised Common Lectionary and it, rather than A Four-Year Lectionary, is widely used in the United Kingdom.
Ideally, revision of the Lectionary for Mass and of the Revised Common Lectionary to reduce the "promise-fulfillment" manipulation of the Earlier Testament and to avoid use of defamatory anti-Jewish texts should be done by leaders from every segment of the Christian Church.

He makes a good case that the omission of the passage is best explained by the lectionary practice of reading a passage of Scripture at certain times of the year.
To sum, Robinson uses the lectionaries to demonstrate a plausible case for why the adultery story is omitted in some manuscripts, and in different places in others.
So the "hard evidence" of the lectionaries and the manuscripts themselves strongly argues in favor of the passage being genuine.

Lectionaries are 'orderly sequences of selections of from Scripture to be read aloud at public worship by a religious community.' Technically speaking, a lectionary is the actual book of lections ('scripture lessons') to be read according to a prescribed schedule during either Sunday worship or daily prayer.

The Lectionary for Sundays and Festivals follows a three-year cycle and incorporates a semi-continuous reading for much of the Bible during Ordinary Time, while embracing a select lectionary for the Christmas and Easter cycles and certain other festivals.
The Daily Lectionary is arranged in a two-year cycle and provides for reading twice through the New Testament and once through the Old Testament during the cycle.
The Scriptural references for both the Lectionary for Sundays and Festivals and the Daily Lectionary are taken from the Common Lectionary (Revised) prepared by the Consultation on Common Texts.

 Bibles and Lectionaries
The Lectionary was revised in the 1990s, after new translations of the New Testament (1986) and Psalms (1991) appeared.
Thus the revised Lectionary had to undergo extensive "repairs"; consequently, in the late 1990s, several US bishops and Vatican experts together amended the Lectionary text, to correct the defective translations.
As the Canadian bishops had already published the new Lectionary using the defective NRSV translation -- though without seeking Vatican approval -- they were permitted to continue to use it on an interim basis.

DOCTRINAL INSTRUMENT OF SALVATION: THE USE OF SCRIPTURE IN THE PRAYER BOOK LECTIONARY   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The principles upon which this lectionary is constructed follow the general lines of the proposed Sunday eucharistic lectionary— a combination of thematic and semi-continuous readings.
To suggest that the older common lectionary is an historical accident overlooks the development of the eucharistic lectionary in the western tradition from the early Middle Ages onwards and impugns the work of the Reformers and the Counter-Reformers who attended to the eucharistic lectionary and made intentional improvements.
The development of the lectionary in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, primarily the daily office lectionary and the Sunday office lectionary and only to a lesser degree the eucharistic lectionary, witness the utilization of modern biblical scholarship.

The Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) is a Lectionary for worship now used by many Protestant churches, and includes readings for Sunday services, as well as other special days, such as Christmas Eve and Day, Holy Name (New Years), Epiphany (January 6), Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter Vigil, Ascension of the Lord, and Thanksgiving Day.

 Lectionaries
The number of lectionaries now known is somewhat less than the number of continuous-text manuscripts (about 2300 lectionaries, as compared to some 3200 continuous-text manuscripts of all types), but this may be due simply to the fact that they were well-used but no longer prized once printed editions became available.
An ordinary lectionary would contain two parts: A Synaxarion (containing the day-by-day readings for the liturgical year, beginning with Easter; this resembles the form of most modern lectionaries) and a Menologion (containing the readings for particular dates and events, and based on the fixed calendar).
This being the case, it would seem likely that there would be a "lectionary text" -- a type which evolved in the lectionaries, in a manner analogous to the evolution of a type in the versions.
