Oskar's position with WAR was a prominent one from their early days with Eric Burdon onwards.
Sarge was so impressed with the Lee Oskar harp that he sent a cassette of his "Vietnam Blues" to the address on the paper insert in the harp case.

 POP - Lee Oskar
Lee's signature harp solos help define the WAR sound from the band's beginning in 1969, adding dashes of color to their RandB/Jazz/Rock/Funk and Latin influences.
This return to a solo career and the debut Oskar release for Zebra So Much In Love was recorded at Chick Coreas' Mad Hatter Studios and Headstrong Studios in L.A. Oskars' six-piece group on this disc consists of equally talented players on sax, keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and percussion.
The harp/sax horn section (pioneered by Oskar during his years with WAR, and which became the trademark sound heard on many of War's hits), creates an exciting fusion-sometimes harmonizing in tight cohesion, sometimes bouncing off each other, but always complimentary and original.

 Eric Burdon and War
But most of their tunes were credited to the whole band, they frequently sang faceless harmonies all the way through a song, and they had four different soloists - saxophonist Charles Miller was quite competent, and harmonica player Lee Oskar was rivalled only by Stevie Wonder as a popularizer of the instrument.
Although this was produced by Family Stone drummer Greg Errico, Oskar seems more in control here, writing most of the material and leading a serviceable studio band - Errico, Nathan East or Abraham Laboriel (bass), Paul Jackson and Melvin Robinson (guitar), and the dextrous Barnaby Finch (keyboards) - instead of leaning on borrowed War players.
At this point Oskar ended up in Japan, where he recorded two albums with a local jazz-fusion group that was every bit as polite and professional as you'd expect.

Lee Oskar, Versaly Games   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
A founding member of War, the pioneering funk rock band famed for the hits “Spill the Wine,” “Why Can't We Be Friends?” and “Low Rider,” Oskar signed with Seattle-based interactive mobile entertainment distributor Versaly Games in early 2002 to author a series of exclusive ringtones for next-generation handsets.
To that end, Oskar is only composing ringtones for next-gen phones, such as Microsoft's Stinger smartphone, that offer full-fidelity, polytonal playback.
Despite differences in length and approach, Oskar said the jazz-influenced epic jams of his War days and the relative musical snippets that compose ringtones are merely different points on the same creative continuum.

The title cut "So Much In Love" is a harbinger of things to come on this CD---sweet is the only way to describe the melodies that Oskar produces using his own line of harmonicas.
On "A Soulful Prayer," the background scatting is a catchy addition to Oskar's inventive harmonica style.

This was by far the best night of the run-- featuring some great harmonica work by guest Lee Oskar.
Oskar gets things going at the end of drums with a nice bluesy jam that builds into Weir singing "I Got My Mojo Working." This jam then explodes into a HUGE "Other One." I wouldn't be surprised if pieces of the ceiling fell off during Phil's thundering bass throughout this tune.
Once again Lee Oskar comes out and helps on a jam that builds out of the drums section of the show.

Why do I get those squealing/ringing noises when I bend/overblow notes on my Lee Oskar/Huang/Suzuki harmonica and how ...
In fact, Lee Oskars in the lowest keys have recently been given an extra lower cover to give the reeds more room to swing freely.
On low C instruments such as the Hohner 364 and 365, the lowest draw reeds swing so far that a slight reshape of the cover is not going to help too much.
Finally, there is a reed noise which commonly affects the Lee Oskar, Huang and Suzuki harps, although Hohners are not totally immune to it either.
