  Lee Weyer Information
Lee Howard Weyer (September 3, 1936 – July 4, 1988) was an American umpire in Major League Baseball who worked in the National League from 1963 to 1988.
Born in Imlay City, Michigan, Weyer was first placed under contract with the NL in 1959 while he was in the Army.
Weyer umpired in the World Series in 1969, 1976, 1982 and 1987, serving as crew chief in 1976 and 1982.

The 6 '6" umpire was behind the plate on September 11, 1985, in Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium when Pete Rose singled off San Diego's Eric Show to break Ty Cobb's career hit record.
Weyer, who had done national television commercials for Miller Beer and Coca Cola, was diagnosed in 1980 as having Guillan-Barre syndrome, a potentially life-threatening disorder that affects muscle control and can cause blindness.

Too many to list here.....I sent out the 1988 Topps set and got all back....with the exceptions of those with no address and of course Larry McSherry.
Also Durwood Merrill, and I am not sure if Lee Weyer or Nick Bremigan made that set, as they have all passed on since then.
I met Durwood at a NASO convention in 1998, what a great guy and he was a great humanitarian as well, giving to needy kids in Hooks, Texas during the holidays.

The issue of overweight umpires gained national attention during the 1987 World Series, when McSherry was part of a crew that included Ken Kaiser (nearly 300 pounds) and the late Lee Weyer and Greg Kosc (each about 280 pounds).
Ironically, McSherry replaced Wyer as crew chief in 1988 - two weeks after Weyer died of a heart attack following a game of pickup basketball.
