Ashburn was originally called Farmwell (alternative names Old Farmwell, Farmwell Station) after a nearby mansion of that name owned by George Lee, great-grandson of Thomas Lee.
Belmont, Lee's grandson's Ashburn estate, is situated near the Potomac River and Goose Creek.
The name Farmwell first appeared in George's October, 1802 will and was used to describe the 1,236 acre plantation he inherited from his father, Thomas Ludwell Lee II.

 Enfield Lock to Walthamstow
A short distance away to the left is a pumping station, which stands beside the "River Lee Diversion" the name given to the old River Lea when it was re-routed around the newly built reservoirs.
From Enfield Lock the River Lea and Lee Navigation flow east and west respectively around the large reservoirs at Chingford.
The pumping station at the northern end houses a preserved beam engine, once used to pump sewage, and is open to the public on the first Sunday each month.

 Brimsdown
Brimsdown lies east of Enfield and west of King George’s reservoir and constitutes a large section of the Lee Valley industrial corridor.
There is a residential side to Brimsdown – a patch of mixed housing west of the railway line.
The creek, which joins the Lee Navigation near the bridge, is thought to have been formed when Mossop and Company extracted gravel here in the second half of the nineteenth century.

Temporary stands will be erected inside and around the course to accommodate up to 40,000 spectators at the Olympics, with a special platform built to offer spectators easy access to Broxbourne railway station.

The line ran through two large estates - that of Thomas Brandram of the Cedars, Lee and of John Cator at Blackheath Park and private bridges had to be built so that these estates were not split.

Mancini was arrested on 17 July by two Metropolitan Police Constables of R Division who found him observed him in the Eltham Road, Lee area of south east London and arrested him.
On the 17th June 1934 William Joseph Vinnicombe, a cloak room attendant employed by the Southern Railway at Brighton Railway Station, noticed an offensive odour in the cloakroom and called Detective Bishop of the Railway Police who opened a trunk which contained parts of a human body.
The Chief Constable of Brighton called for assistance from Scotland Yard and the Metropolitan Police sent down Chief Inspector Robert Donaldson.
