Left communism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Left Communism is a term describing a whole range of communist viewpoints which oppose the political ideas of the Bolsheviks from a position which is asserted to be more authentically Marxist and proletarian than the views held by the Communist International after its first two Congresses.
The Italian Left Fraction was for the rest of the 1930s led by Ottorino Perrone, although it was fiercely opposed to the cult of the personality which was developing in the Comintern around Stalin in these years and resisted similar pressures in its own organisation.
Left Communists entered a period of constant decline from this point onwards, although they were somewhat rejuvenated by the events of 1968.

Communism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Communism refers to a conjectured future classless, stateless social organization based upon common ownership of the means of production, and to a variety of political movements which claim the establishment of such a social organization as their ultimate goal.
Communism carries a strong social stigma in the United States, due to a history of anti-communism in America.
According to the Marxist argument for communism, the main characteristic of human life in class society is alienation; and communism is desirable because it entails the full realization of human freedom.

Communism is a theory and system of social and political organization that dominated much of the history of the Twentieth Century.
In theory, communism is a classless society in which all property is owned by the community as a whole and where all people enjoy equal social and economic status.
An obvious distinction between this idealic view of primitive man and communism however, is the criminalization of religion, which while clearly found in communism, has never been a component of the cultures of indigenous peoples in their natural state, for whom religion and ritual were a vital cultural component.

Many small currents to the left of the mass Communist Parties collapsed at the beginning of the Second World War and the Left Communists were intially silent too.
This was objected to by Trotsky, as he held this was not the position of the Opposition which was instead Bolshevik-Leninist i.e., Trotsky identified the Left Opposition as the orthodox Leninist current in contra-distinction to both the Left Communists and the Stalinist centrist faction.

The “orthodox” criticism of Left Communism is contained in Lenin’s 1920 book: “Left-Wing” Communism – An Infantile Disorder and the classic statement of the position of Left Communism is contained in Herman Gorter’s response: Letter to Comrade Lenin.
Left Communists have tended to reject participation in Parliament by revolutionaries, even declaring that the workers have “gone beyond” as well as holding that such participation inevitably corrupted the representatives of workers put into Parliament.
Left Communists have also tended to hold that revolutionaries should not participate in “yellow” or conservative trade unions; this policy was actually implemented by the Comintern in the late-1920s/early-1930s when separate “Red” unions were set up.

In 1941 the Italian Fraction was reorganised in France and along with the new French Fraction came into conflict with the ideas which the Fraction had propagated from 1936: of the social disappearance of the proletariat and localised wars, etc. These ideas continued to be defended by Vercesi in Brussels.
The confusion between the two currents was made worse by the tendency of some Trotskyists to call themselves Left Communists, which was made most explicit in the case of the Spanish section of the International Left Opposition which named itself the Left Communists of Spain (ICE).

 Lenin's Left Wing Communism
The isolation of the various communist parties from the working class, and the inexperience of their members and leaders, meant that these organisations fell easy prey to the 'disease' of ultra leftismto believing that they could ignore the job of patiently winning workers to revolutionary politics.
However, the mass of workers in 1920who had moved to the leftstill believed that their interests could be met by parliamentary means.
The 'lefts' were opposed to any such joint activity, which they saw as capitulation to reformism.

It was the «senile disorder» of communism, that led the revolutionary organism to the present death, its results being far more detrimental than the ruinous crisis of the IInd International.
From the standpoint of communism repudiation of the Party principle means attempting to leap from the eve of capitalism's collapse (in Germany), not to the lower or the intermediate phase of communism, but to the higher.
The Italian Left had since 1919 resolutely fought such an antimarxist thesis, that was later condemned at the IInd Congress in the resolution on soviets or factory councils, to which it will be worth going back to.

The words "communism" and "socialism" are commonly mis-used to describe a society in which a popular revolution against the ruling class and foreign imperialism results in a radical transformation of property relations and an improvement in the living conditions of the masses.
The coming revolution in communications, now in its earliest stages, is already beginning to demonstrate its potential to influence the development and interaction of Marxist (and would-be Marxist) organizations.
In the next decade or so, the communications revolution holds promise to completely transform the "left ecosystem" at present consisting predominantly of squabbling sectarian grouplets, craven reformists and the just-plain confused.

Frankly admitting a mistake, disclosing the reasons for it, analysing the conditions which led to it, and carefully discussing the means of correcting it--this is the sign of a serious party; this is the way it performs its duties, this is the way it educates and trains the class, and then the masses.

The story of the deep historical and conceptual links between communism and fascism was a theme of Hayek's famous The Road to Serfdom and has been detailed by a number of scholars, most notably A. James Gregor in The Faces of Janus: Marxism and Fascism in the Twentieth Century.
They hated capitalism for the very same reason they hated communism: its internationalism, its tendency to dilute one's allegiance to Nation and Race; Nazism was, one might say, the original anti-globalization movement.

The point of communism was not to suppress the division of labour union the purely formal level of "workshop democracy" here one only retained the distinction between "burgher" and "citizen" but to abolish labour itself as a sphere separate from praxis.

Also, as a tremendously successful self-made woman, long before the ascendancy of political feminism, she is invulnerable to the typical feminist mode of gender argumention against "dead white males." These inconveniences make it preferable for the Left to ignore Rand, which mostly they can and have, given the minority and ignorable status of libertarianism.
Another of Rand's sins against the Left and still of current interest was her willingness to testify as a "friendly witness" in the 1947 hearings of the House Committee on Un-American Acitivies (HUAC) on Communist infiltration of Hollywood.
While Communism failed and fell in the real world, in the make-believe world of Hollywood Communist propaganda succeeded quite nicely, and many people still believe that the HUAC investigations were "witch hunts" for non-existent enemies or well-meaning idealists.

In my high school library, in a photographic biography of Trotsky, I found a brief account of the life and adventures of the anarchist Nestor Makhno, a partisan fighter in the Russian Civil War.
Makhno was an enigma to my 14-year old Guevaraist consciousness, since this was the first time I'd read of forces qualitatively to the left of the Bolsheviks in the Russian Revolution.
So in radical Berkeley my options were identical to what I'd left behind in the ‘burbs: I worked pumping gas, flipping burgers and washing dishes to pay my rent.
