		Left Communism is a term describing a whole range of communist viewpoints which oppose the political ideas of the Bolsheviks from a position which is asserted to be more authentically Marxist and proletarian than the views held by the Communist International after its first two Congresses.
		The Italian Left Fraction was for the rest of the 1930s led by Ottorino Perrone, although it was fiercely opposed to the cult of the personality which was developing in the Comintern around Stalin in these years and resisted similar pressures in its own organisation.
		Left Communists entered a period of constant decline from this point onwards, although they were somewhat rejuvenated by the events of 1968.

		Many small currents to the left of the mass Communist Parties collapsed at the beginning of the Second World War and the Left Communists were intially silent too.
		This was objected to by Trotsky, as he held this was not the position of the Opposition which was instead Bolshevik-Leninist i.e., Trotsky identified the Left Opposition as the orthodox Leninist current in contra-distinction to both the Left Communists and the Stalinist centrist faction.

		In my high school library, in a photographic biography of Trotsky, I found a brief account of the life and adventures of the anarchist Nestor Makhno, a partisan fighter in the Russian Civil War.
		Makhno was an enigma to my 14-year old Guevaraist consciousness, since this was the first time I'd read of forces qualitatively to the left of the Bolsheviks in the Russian Revolution.
		So in radical Berkeley my options were identical to what I'd left behind in the ‘burbs: I worked pumping gas, flipping burgers and washing dishes to pay my rent.
