"Leftism" was perhaps not as big commercially as the others but it's a original album with many good songs and influents, never cared for their other albums and eventually they split up in 2002 but this one is topclass.
This album has to be one of the greatest of the 20th century, and I know that is saying a lot.

For the band who claim that music is "like a drug", it is a pity that Leftfield seem to have become addicted to this particular sound and in many ways have merely produced a collection of tracks that could have been the B-Sides for their last long-player "Leftism".
I think the disappointment is compounded by the fact that it took them four years since their last album to actually produce this piece of bum fluff.
Four years ago it was the perfect chill-out album with sounds like 'Open Up' and '21st Century Poem' the listener was manipulated between fast and slow with the effortless ease that only true masters could accomplish.

It was a prediction that by the Summer of 1996 had literally come true: during a gig on the 'Leftism' tour at London's Brixton Academy, sound levels reached the highest ever recorded at the venue, while the bass vibrations caused the ceiling to start disintegrating, showering dust and plaster onto the stage.
Four years later, 'Leftism' has just been declared the Greatest Dance Album Of All Time in a poll of top DJs, while its timeless mix of ribcage-shaking dub, grandoise techno, and futuristic splendour still sounds like it was made yesterday.
'Leftism' was an album that redrew the borders for dance music, pioneered a radical hybrid of dub and house and breaks (long before anyone had invented big beat), and threw together guest vocalists from other musical worlds (gothic torch singer Toni Halliday, reggae toaster Earl Sixteen) over rhythms borrowed from dub, reggae, and African music.

Leftfield: Rhythm and Stealth ---Ink Blot Magazine
The slow gestation period of Leftism was filled by Hard Hands' championing of the emerging junglist scene and taster singles like "Song of Life" and "Open Up," which raised expectations to a simmer.
The new album explores the same broad range of tempos and styles (ambient, dub, hip-hop, house, techno) as its predecessor, but Rhythm and Stealth is dominated by a slavishly digital, no-frills aesthetic.
Leftism raised the bar so high that it's hard to excuse these filler tracks - the likes of which we'd expect from almost any other electronic long player.

When it was first released five years ago, it was hailed as one of the most seminal works this type of music had ever seen, and although I don't feel qualified to give it this kind of perspective, I can understand where those opinions came from.
This is one of the album's best tracks, and it's mixed straight into the penultimate track, Open Up, which begins with more spooky chanting, which changes to English later on with some melodramatic weirdly-accented rhyming declamation over the same old drums.
That's not to say there aren't a lot of flaws; in my opinion, the album would have worked a lot better as a continuous mix, because the tracks taken separately are pretty fragmented.

Leftism distilled the revolutionary sounds of the early '90s into timeless songs, and even as the second Leftfield album approaches, the debut sounds fresher than 1999's flavor-of-the-month junglists and big beaters.

This tune is quite minimal in its structure for the first few minutes, an african stringed instrument and a single bass is all that is required for you to enjoy the track.
The continued use of tribal instruments throughout the album is shown here with proper African drums being heard in the comparatively ambient section of the track in the 4 to 5 minute mark.
