  Legend (1985)
Legend is not the kind of fantasy film with broadswords and ogres and impalements - not my preferred kind, then.
It's the kind of movie with pixies n' faeries lurking in the background while Mia Sara frolics in a meadow with little birds fluttering about while she sings a song to herself and dreams of meeting unicorns.
The cool twist is that this movie's villain is more overtly Satanic than any demon-like figure I've ever seen in the movies, looking and acting the part to the hilt.

 Legend - DVD Movie Central
The movie tells of a long, long time ago, when the earth was ruled by no less than that of the unicorns and the endless battle between light and darkness.
Again, with the new Director’s Cut version of the movie, Universal took their time in restoring this 1985 adventure with a furious sound that would rival that of a transfer of a fairly recent movie.
Legend may forever be something of an acquired taste, but if you’re an admirer of Ridley Scott’s work, this one very much deserves a look at.

 Legend (1985)
Legend feels forced and cutesy much of the time, and the script saddles the actors with some of the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard.
The movie utilized a glowing tone that made sense within the fantasy framework, and the various hues came across as rich and vibrant.
Nonetheless, fans of Legend should be absolutely delighted that the flick finally got such an excellent DVD release, and those who think it might be their cup of tea are firmly encouraged to give it a look.

Inde flees to the mountains with his army, and we are treated to a wonderful scene in which the peasant armies have to make do with what food they can find, including a slaughtered horse and tree bark.
Some twists are thrown in when the most evil general of all (as indicated by the fact that he has the deepest voice in the movie) comes to the King's rescue.

MovieMartyr.com - Boggy Creek II: …And the Legend Continues
Set in rural Texarkana, the movie is a quintessential example of the kind of low-budget regional filmmaking that has churned out a series of B-movies that would be utterly forgettable were they not so grounded in the specifics of their settings.
The movie is a veritable guided tour through the backwoods and bayous of the region it takes place in.
These stories are the highlight of the movie, and although they are alternatively frightening, humorous and mysterious, they all share the feel of a tale told around a campfire, which is perfectly appropriate, given the subject matter.

However, there is the possibility the movie may have had an influence in later Zelda games, most notably Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Zelda was released in 1987, while the screenplay for "Legend of Darkness", by William Hjortsberg (screenplay writer for Angel Heart and other films) that eventually became the screenplay for the film Legend, was written prior to 1985.

 Legend Review (1985)
The script by William Hjortsberg (who wrote the novel Falling Angel, which Angel Heart was based on) has too much of the science fiction convention about it with its parade of dwarfs, elves, faeries and demons, and the coy attempts at humour fell flat.
That all this is rendered in film studio is quite an achievement, and Scott's design team were rightly praised for their efforts, but the drawback is a story that never comes to life in the same way the other aspects do.
Legend is one of those films that is lovely to look at, but groans and wheezes in most other departments.

If the movie had a message, it was this: that the spirit of the human imagination is ultimately indestructible - even when everything else turns to ****.
And, as with all truly great and groundbreaking films, Brazil was largely overlooked at the Oscars (the official voice of the movie 'industry') which failed to recognise The Exorcist and Psycho as classics in their time but once voted Driving Miss Daisy the very best picture in all the land.
In an age when everyone imagines (with some justification) that the movie industry is entirely run by moneymen and corporate whores, we should stop to remember and rejoice in the rare victories whenever they appear.

The Legend of Zorro - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution movie review | AccessAtlanta
Now, in "The Legend of Zorro," they're an old married couple — Zorro and, um, Zorrette — but a pretty hot old married couple, he with his hair hanging insouciantly down in his face, she all heaving-bosomy in a series of corseted gowns.
They have a cute and spunky young son, Joaquin, a heckuva hacienda, and a problem that's really just something ginned up to launch the sequel: She wants him to quit being Zorro and be a family man. He wants to keep dashing off and saving everyone.
"Legend" takes this premise and rather laboriously builds a much larger contraption than is warranted by the B-movie origins of it all.

A perennial favorite at video stores -- in part because it’s an adventure film that can be enjoyed by the whole family -- Legend is finally available in a deluxe DVD edition containing two strikingly different versions of the film: the one that appeared in theaters and a never-released cut by director Ridley Scott.
Scott never loses sight of the fact that Legend is just a glorified fairy tale, and he spares no effort in creating a never-never land that is as believable as it is magical.
This movie is a must have for fantasy lovers everywhere, the DVD is quite excellent and flawless especially the nicely done director's cut with better music score from the late jerry Goldsmith.

Ground and Sky review - Jerry Goldsmith - Soundtrack to "Legend" (European Release/Director's Cut)
It is interesting how much the 1985 movie Legend, directed by Ridley Scott, is like a fantasy genre counterpart to another cult movie of the 80s, namely Disney's sci-fi adventure Tron.
The original one, written by veteran Hollywood film composer Jerry Goldsmith, was released with the movie's initial run in Europe through 20th Century Fox, though it was ravaged by the indiscriminate inclusion of irrelevant music from other sources.
These needed to be re-edited and were sequenced entirely by ear (for apparently the original sheet music to the score is also long gone), to be as close as possible to the way the music would have appeared in the longest version of the film had all the ultimately deleted scenes been retained.

There are too many "adult" references and too much violence for me to consider it suitable for young children, and to my way of thinking, it's too silly for an older audience.
