The abbreviated Latin inscription tells us the plaque commemorates the building of 3000 feet [of the Antonine Wall] (built across S Scotland early on but abandoned for Hadrian's Wall further south) by a vexillation (detachment serving away from the legion) of Legio XX Valeria Victrix.
The boar is the symbol of Legio XX, and it was carried on its standards.
Legio X Fretensis, which was stationed for a time in Judea, also displayed a boar symbol on its standards.

At the beginning of Augustus rule, in 25 BC, this legion was relocated in Hispania, to fight in the Cantabrian wars, which definitively established Roman power in Hispania, and later camped in Hispania Tarraconensis.
