Legit (professional wrestling) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In professional wrestling, legit (from "legitimate") is a slang term used to describe a match or event which has not been booked or a performer who relies on genuine wrestling skill and ability as opposed to his gimmick.
In the recent past many matches and wrestlers were presented as being "legit", although this was not always, or even often, the case.
In March 2005 a new professional wrestling league was announced called Real Pro Wrestling.

Unreal Stories Review In Wrestling Perspective
Wrestling is a sport living in the eternal now; its future only stretching ahead to the next big card and its past only reaching as far back as the last big card.
Wrestling is about athletics and championship titles, the title, or macguffin in this case, acts as a Holy Grail and provides the basis for the struggle between good and evil to control it.
Professional wrestling is unique, for out of all the major professional sports; it has no real history.

 The History of Pro Wrestling
Beginning in the post-Civil War period, wrestling bouts were staged at country fairs or touring carnivals in “At Shows” (short for athletic shows), where wrestlers with costumes, nicknames, and fictionalized biographies would wrestle each other or accept challenges from all local comers (you may have seen this in a few cartoons).
Wrestling’s roots were so solidly embedded in the European culture that most of the first wave of great American wrestlers was made up of first-generation Americans of European descent, most from small-town America, and European immigrants - wrestlers such as Martin Burns, William Muldoon, Ernest Roeber, and Evan Lewis.
Wrestling sank back into oblivion until the 1980s, when promoter Vince McMahon found a way to use the media to his own advantage, and wrestling roared into its third golden age - one that it is still enjoying.

No, log cabin matches aren?t paeans to Abraham Lincoln?s Kentucky state (legit) wrestling championship in his youth, or his homoerotic escapades as a young man, they are matches where the ring ropes are partially replaced by a wall of fluorescent light-bulbs.
Wrestling jargon is a dialect of carney, with some television slang thrown in.
Foley left 'World Championship Wrestling' in 1994 after realizing that his unconventional looks, hardcore style and wide butt would forever keep him away from the main events, which were the exclusive precinct of bleach blond muscleheads and aging cowboys.

 Title Belts: Props or Trophies?
Professional wrestling as a business has many aspects that are immediately identified by the general public.
While not pure "contests" at times, wrestling is and continues to be a competition among performers and titles should continue to be the goal and reward for the top man, team or woman in the business.
Reggie Parks (a wrestling legend and premier belt-maker) and his partner Dave Millican, as well as Joe Marshall at J-Mar belts, spend quite a bit of time making belts that are replicas of titles wrestlers have won for their personal collections.

The Professional Wrestling Online Museum - Andy Kaufman
However, of all the many celebrities that have been involved with pro wrestling over the years, none were as successful at crossing the line from mainstream entertainment into the kayfabed non-reality of wrestling than the one star who genuinely understood what pro wrestling was truly about, the brilliant performance artist Andy Kaufman...
Yet, in terms of theatricality, having watched professional wrestling on television throughout the majority of his life, Kaufman had much to draw from as he took on the role of a quintessential heel during the bouts.
It was around this time that Kaufman began approaching well-known wrestling promoters across the country with the idea of running an angle involving him and a legitimate (male) professional wrestling superstar.

At the time, professional wrestling was very territorial, so he had more of a chance to see the WWWF on TV each week than any other promotion, although there was a chance to see other promotions from time to time.
The two were discussing Andy’s involvement with professional wrestling, with The King constantly insulting Andy for not accepting his challenge to a "real" match with a man. Eventually, Kaufman had insulted and irritated Lawler so much that Jerry had to take a stand, and he slapped the taste out of Kaufman’s mouth proverbially.
On the condition that Kaufman would leave professional wrestling after this match, Lawler accepted the invitation, only to be double crossed by Kaufman in a swerve perpetrated by Hart and Kaufman.

Even if she is awesome, ROH is not going to be flying in a woman all the way from Japan so that they can have a good women's match.
