  Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jerry Leiber (born April 25, 1933) and Mike Stoller (born March 13, 1933) are among the most important songwriters and music producers in post-World War II popular music.
After school, Stoller played drums and Leiber worked in a record store and, when they met, they found they shared a love of blues and rhythm and blues.
Phil Spector served an "apprenticeship" of sorts with Leiber and Stoller in New York, developing his record producer's craft while assisting and playing on their sessions, including guitar on "On Broadway".

As with Leiber and Stoller, Goffin’s later work included biting lyrics and adult emotions; if America had had anything like the thriving Broadway stage it had once had, some of these people might have continued to be the voices of their generation, as both they and their contemporaries matured.

Leiber and Stoller moved to New York City and set up an office in what was known as the Brill Building, which was actually a group of buildings along Broadway that served as the epicenter of the pop music business in the 50's and 60's.
Leiber and Stoller soon grew tired of Spector and it was not long before he struck out on his own.
Leiber and Stoller, who claimed that "we don't write songs, we write records," were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987.

Their first hit composition was "Hard Times," recorded by Charles Brown, which was a rhythm and blues hit in 1952.
In the 1960s they founded and briefly owned Red Bird Records, which issued the Shangri-Las' "Leader of the Pack" and the Dixie Cups' "Chapel of Love." After selling Red Bird Leiber and Stoller worked as independent producers and continued to write songs.
Their best known song from this period is "Is That All There Is?," recorded by Peggy Lee in 1969.

We had been invited to attend a Press Conference with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, (for which we are indebted to Ken Lower of Hermana).
It started with the announcement of the forthcoming charity tribute show to Leiber and Stoller, which was to take place at the London Apollo, Hammersmith on Friday 29th June.
