Leicester South is a Parliamentary Constituency in the House of Commons.
The seat is centred on the southern part of Leicester covering leafy suburbs such as Stoneygate and Knighton, as well as inner city areas with a strong Asian community and deprived outer estates such as Saffron and Eyres Monsell.
The constituency encompasses the council wards of Spinney Hills, Stoneygate, Knighton, Freemen, Aylestone, Eyres Monsell and virtually all of Castle.

The Liberal Democrats were rewarded for their strong and consistent anti-war position as they wrested the Leicester South seat from the Labour by a good margin, and did well enough in Birmingham to take the second position.
In Leicester South, which the Labour had won in 2001 by a margin of more than a 1,000 votes, the Lib-Dem candidate, Paramjit Singh Gill, defeated the Labour candidate, Peter Soulsby, by a comfortable margin.

Chris Heaton-Harris has been selected by local Conservatives to fight the forthcoming Leicester South by-election - and has promised to stand up for the City, and put it back on the national map.
Less than two weeks ago Mr Heaton-Harris, a 36 year old businessman, who is married and has two daughters, was re-elected as an MEP for the East Midlands, where he has campaigned strongly to free commerce and industry from bureaucracy and red tape.
He contested Leicester South in the 1997 general election, and was first elected to the European Parliament two years later, representing the East Midlands region.
