Leigh HARLINE Broken Lance: Film Music on the Web CD Reviews February 2002   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
This Film Score Monthly release pays tribute to Leigh Harline, one of the many fine but relatively obscure composers who labored in Hollywood's studio ranks for many years, crafting competent, workaday scores to mostly run-of-the mill films.
I admit to not being overly impressed at its initially treatment in a brass fanfare, but Harline's development as the cue continues suggests a maturity to the theme that enables it to wear well as the score progresses.
The sleeve notes call Leigh Harline ‘The Composer That Time Forgot’ and there’s a lot of truth in that statement.

The Enemy Below (Leigh Harline) soundtrack review
Leigh is primarily known for his work that he did for Walt Disney.
Harline in some of the action underscore does an excellent job in mixing the themes back and forth making you feel like you are a part of the crew.
The pressure and tension is scored very well in the track "Ocean Bottom." You are made to feel like you are on the bottom of the ocean, gasping for air, feeling the pressure of the great depths, and waiting for the explosion of the depth charges.

You may not think you are familiar with the music of Leigh Harline, but you are -- he wrote (with lyricist Ned Washington) the classic Disney song, "When You Wish Upon a Star," heard in everything from Pinocchio to Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
In addition, Harline provides an exuberant, joyful melody for the budding love story between Wagner's character and the governor's daughter (Jean Peters), and makes judicious use of an Irish folk song, "My Love, Oh She Is My Love" for the tender relationship between Tracy's character and his Indian wife (Katy Jurado).
Harline's Broken Lance score is presented complete (save for one short cue which was lost) and in chronological order, remixed from the original six-track masters.

7 Faces of Dr. Lao | Sound Space | SCI FI Weekly
Surely part of its status is due to the wonderful score provided by composer Leigh Harline.
Harline was at the end of a long and interesting career.
Harline can also be tenderly lyrical in this score, as exemplified by cue 7, "Appolonius," performed on high-register bassoon with an English horn counter-melody in the second statement, along with sad strings and an occasional gong.

SoundtrackNet : The Enemy Below Soundtrack
Leigh Harline - known for his collaborations with Walt Disney productions - composed the score for The Enemy Below, an early World War II submarine film from 1957.
Two cues are a collection of music from scenes in the film and are strung together to make lengthy action suites, which make up two of the better tracks on the album.
Harline's music is very appropriate for the film, never straying from the militaristic fanfare style.
