Lembert Dome is a granite dome in Yosemite National Park, California, USA.
Lembert Dome soars 800 feet (240 m) above Tuolumne Meadows and the Tuolumne River and can be hiked starting at the Tioga Road in the heart of Tuolumne Meadows, 8 miles west of the Tioga Pass Entrance to Yosemite National Park.
Lembert Dome was named after John Baptist Lembert, a homesteader in Tuolumne Meadows [1].

A number of the domes are clustered at the upper end of Tenaya Lake.
In contrast to the big walls of Yosemite Valley, climbing at Tuolumne generally consists of short- to medium-length routes on eleven major domes and a number of minor ones, stretching from the Stately Pleasure Dome above Tenaya Lake to Lembert Dome on the east side of the Meadows.
The local ethic is to limit the placement of bolts on new routes and to forbid the addition of bolts to existing routes, resulting in distances of 40 feet (12 m) or more between bolts.

Lembert Dome was covered by the great glacier of the Tuolumne area.
This large monolith was named after John Baptist Lembert, who settled at Soda Springs in the mid-1800's to raise Angorra sheep and was later known as a hermit and goat herder.

Maps were prepared for the Cathedral Peak on Lembert Dome (LD; Upper and Lower Map Regions), and for the HDE next to Tenaya Lake (TL: Tenaya Map Region).
Dikes from both regions exhibit internal textural variability; the dikes of Lembert Dome differ in texture and intrusion behavior from those of Tenaya Lake.

Lembert Dome is a large block of granite rounded and exposed on the south side with gently sloping forest terrain on the north.
We immediately went to work picking the kids off the rock one by one and convincing them that they would be just fine if they had confidence, stood up on their feet and moved on.
For me, standing on top of Lembert Dome that day was much more than a great view of the Sierra, it was a realization.

You'll see the dome looming above the parking area to the east, although the aspect in view is not what you'll be climbing.
The trail winds around the northern side of the dome where the trail fades and you begin climbing up the granite northeastern slope.
This slope is gradual and nothing like the sheer cliff wall of the western side of the dome.

For climbers, the domes are among the most exciting challenges anywhere for mind and body.
On climbs such as Lembert, the rope is simply not long enough to make it all the way to the top, so you take it in sections.
From the Tuolumne Meadows family campground ($18 a night), Lembert Dome is an easy walk away, and children love paddling in the river.

We did a number of hikes including to Half Dome, Upper Yosemite Falls, Cathedral Lakes, and Gaylor Lakes.
The views from Glacier Point are better than those from Half Dome.
Lembert Dome is fairly interesting but I'd give Dog Lake a pass.

There were occasional peeks of the dome between the trees, and we could hear some people climbing the dome's granite slopes.
There was a large'ish murky body of water at the base of the dome which I though to be Dog Lake.
After rejoining the Lembert Dome trail, it was a nice walk up granite slabs to the base of the dome, then a fun friction climb up to Lembert's summit.

This fine dome is within easy walking distance of the campground so it saw a lot of action.
Fairview is probably the most impressive dome in the area.
Amazingly enough, there were a few non climbing activities, such as eating and sleeping, as well as slack lining, fire poi, and jumping in the usually frigid creek.

On September 18-19, I visited Yosemite NP for the 4th time and hiked up Lembert Dome (9450 feet), Dog Dome, and Clouds Rest (9926 feet).
The view of Half Dome is interesting in that you don't quite get the magnitude of the peak while you are hiking up it.
Lembert Dome is also worth the short stroll to the summit since it offers 360 degree views of the Tuolumne area and has good views of Mounts Dana and Gibbs.

We mapped two dike complexes in granodiorites in the equigranular Half Dome near Tenaya Lake and megacrystic Cathedral Peak on Lembert Dome of the Tuolumne Intrusive Suite (CA).

We photographed it with Half Dome in the background, the same huge hunk of rock that would be our companion for the remainder of the journey.
Immediately beyond this we came to the top of the first falls, which were bypassed by moving to the left and dropping down the smooth polished slabs of the Waterwheel Bowl.
Here an enormous boulder stands as a sentinel atop the small dome to the east, taking in the view of Clouds Rest, Half Dome, and Mt. Watkins, just as we were.

The easiest route is a light class 2-3 scramble from the saddle to the east of the peak.

On Sentinel Bridge, very late in the afternoon, you may be able to photograph a warmly lighted Half Dome reflected in the water.
Photograph Half Dome and the Sierra range as the sun is setting and a warm, yellowish-orange glow illuminates Half Dome's face.
On top of the dome, a gnarled jeffrey pine, a fine subject itself, makes a spectacular foreground frame for more distant views.
