Provincial Health Officer Rodolfo Dumayas has reported that an estimated 6,000 residents of almost all of the 43 municipalities of Iloilo have been afflicted with scabies, a highly contagious skin disease.
Dumayas has blamed environmental pollution for the spread of the disease, since it has been noticed that most of the patients live along rivers and irrigation canals.
The disease could have been also brought in by rats which infested Iloilo's crops last month.
