Kasper was the Cubs’ third choice for the job, after Dave O’Brien and Matt Vasgersian, neither of whom were allowed to exit their current contracts.
Kasper, however, doesn’t mind, and–at least according to comments by him quoted by the Chicago Tribune’s Ed Sherman (under the roll-your-eyes headline “Kasper the friendly host")–appears to be saying all the right things.

I liked Len Kasper a lot - he's one of the best there is right now, and he's as good as anybody ESPN has aside from their very top play-by-play guys.
Len and Bob, might get better in time, but I often find myself muting the TV and listening to my music while watching D.Lee campaign for M.V.P. well all i have heard from cub fans is he(chip) is borring and mono-tone and it gets to me when a quality broadcaster is not apreciated.
Len Kasper was a good announcer and a lot of Marlins fans were upset when he left.

Len Kasper simply calls a solid game day in and day out.
He did get a little too critical of the Cubs during that final year, but I will cut him some slack on that because, let's be honest, that team was brutal from a basebal IQ standpoint.

In case you missed it, the entire WGN broadcast was a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the first Cubs game the station covered.
The impersonation was splendid and all the more impressive because it came at such an elevated point in the game, when one could certainly have forgiven Kasper if he had forgotten to channel Brickhouse and deliver the signature call.

Len Kasper did that call amazingly, sent a chill up my spine, i know that is Jack Brickhouses' call and i respect that very much but we should keep it, its awesome!
It was fun to hear (and see) again, and Len did it perfectly, but I doubt he would feel comfortable doing Jack's call for anything other than a special occasion.
Len Kasper only said it because of the 60th anniversery of his first called game on WGN.

I’m eventually writing about Len Kasper and Bob Brenley, but in order to understand anything about Cubs TV broadcasters you have to delve into history a little bit.
Len was pretty dry that first month, and Bob was awkward at times, repeating himself or offering nothing but silence.
Len will be in the Cubs booth for a long time but I hope Bob’s time up there is short-lived.

I have to admit it was a bit strange to see only 8 people in a theater, but it was a work day for most people.
Boy that must have bene strane, that he was sitting next one deat away from you, and then to see him on the big screen.

Here’s Len and Bob at last year’s bash, performing two songs.  Len Kasper is on the mic and Bob Brenly is on guitar (sporting the backwards white baseball cap).
They’ll be doing it again this year at the Second Annual Len and Bob Bash at the Chicago House of Blues on January 17, 2008 in advance of that weekend’s 2008 Cubs Convention.  All proceeds to benefit Chicago Cubs Charities.  The 2007 Bash raised over $50,000.
I didn’t want to like Len and Bob, but over the past season or so they really started to grow on me. I wish somehow they could bring Pat and Ron Santo to the television booth for a couple innings every game.
