The Solid Waste Section has prepared a draft Solid Waste Permit, No. 54-09, for the construction of the Lenoir County Lined Landfill, a municipal solid waste landfill facility, pursuant to 15A NCAC 13B.1600 of the Solid Waste Management Rules.
The landfill facility will be located on NCSR 1524, approximately 4.5 miles west of La Grange, N.C., and will be owned and operated by Lenoir County, P.O. Box 3289, Kinston, N.C. The facility boundary encompasses a total of 127 acres, of which approximately 40 acres will be developed as landfill units.
Lenoir County will dispose of approximately 183 tons of waste per day at the facility.

In 2001 The Conservation Fund, in partnership with the University of North Carolina's Department of City and Regional Planning, the City of Kinston, and the County of Lenoir, developed a plan entitled Kinston-Lenoir County Green Infrastructure Plan for the Neuse River Floodplain.
