[Leica] Impact and lens mount of R8, Focus shift?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The metal lens hood protected the lens itself, but the focus was stuck and the lens is now being repaired somewhere in Leicaland.
I am now thinking that perhaps the lens mount was a bit pushed in due to the impact (not at all apparent from visual examination of the body).
(Tests of the lens mount with the 19mm were inconclusive, and hence the use of the longer focal length lens that I happen to have.) But under a 22x magnifier on the slides, one can see differences.

Information related to F Lens Mount from Nikon - Part 1
Apart from what the lens at the back tells you, some users used the colour of the coating on the lens to determine whether the lens is an AI or non-AI.
For Non AI lenses, mounted on a non-AI camera, the aperture ring must be set to f/5.6, and the meter coupling pin on the camera body (Nikkormats) or meter prism (Nikon F and F2) must be pushed to the right until it clicks into place.
If no positive mounting is felt when moving the meter coupling pin, just push the pin as far to the right as it will go and mount the lens: the rabbit ears should fit into the middle with the pin.

 Zörk Mount adapters
With the adapter ring in place, the spacing between the lens and camera body precisely matches the optical register (film plane to lens flange distance) of the original medium format camera, thereby assuring accurate focusing throughout the range from infinity to close up.
However, because of the cropping effect of a smaller format relative to the original format for which a lens was designed, a standard medium format lens such as 80 mm, becomes a short telephoto lens on a 35mm camera or a medium telephoto on a 1.5 multiplication factor digital body.
These effects are format-independent (i.e., an 80mm lens, while appearing "normal" on a medium format camera, will produce the same perspective as an 80mm "short telephoto" on a 35 or full frame digital camera).

The 'correct' lens mount for your camera is the Nikon AF-D, however, all AF lenses will fit and work.
The 'D' lens has a device in the lens which relays distance information from the lens to the camera body.

 SLR Lens Mount Identification Guide
The "breech" style Canon FD mount looks similar, but you need to hold your lens so that the top is toward the red dot in the photo for the levers to be in the same position.
You may encounter a lens with a finer thread, 42mm diameter but about 0.75mm pitch: this would be a "T" mount lens, missing its mount which screws on.
They are very similar, except that the TX mount has the additional linkage to permit open-aperture metering; as I recall, you can use a T4 mount on a TX lens, but not the other way round....

These mounts can be a little harder to use than a T-mount, since you have to align a coupling pin in the mount with the lens to provide auto-diaphragm operation.
A C mount adapter could either be an adapter to mount a "generic" device on a C-mount film/video camera, or to adapt a specific mount of 35mm camera lens for use on a film/video camera.
A variety of lens mounting options may be used, including reverse T-mount adapters.

Leave the rear cap on the lens while you work on the front of it, this will save you damaging the rear element which sticks out further than on most lenses you will encounter and the glass is not protected by the mount.
Now the lens tube is completely free from the mount you may unscrew the rear group from the lens, grip it with your fingers, wrap a pice of rubber around it to increase your grip if neccessary.
Where the rings holding the individual lens elements are sealed in place with a lacquer you may need to disolve this with a little acetone to allow you to unscrew the rings.

This lens is not built as well as the 28-80, in the sense that the focusing ring is even chintzier, and there are no distance scales, but has never given me any problems, except one or two times when it acted up.
Optically, as everyone has said, this lens is excellent at the short end (75-150) and average to good at 300.

This is achieved with a series of contacts in the lower left-hand section of the lens mount on the camera body, which are visible upon removing the lens

Nikon F AI'd, AI, AIS Lenses
Two of the many early lens characteristics are focal length markings in centimeters rather than MM and a solid stainless steel bayonet base rather than the five mounting screws later lenses used.
These conversions are easy to recognize because of the obvious machined groove at the back of the lens, and the lack of a Nikon style 2nd aperture row.
AIS lenses also have 1) a little indentation in the stainless steel lens mount to indicate that a lens with a linear action diaphragm was mounted.

Digital Cameras - Olympus EVOLT E-300 Digital Camera Review
The lens releases with a button that could be a bit bigger and closer to the mount, but once properly activated, the lens comes off the metal ring mount with just the right sense of friction, especially for owners of old Olympus OM-series cameras, which had a notably nice "feel" in this respect.
Featuring an interchangeable lens mount, a host of exposure controls (including full manual exposure control), and a wide range of 14 preset exposure modes, the E-300 is a capable option for those amateurs looking for a meatier camera, but who aren't willing to shell out the big bucks on a pro level digital SLR.
A lens release button on the lower right side of the front panel releases the lens from the mount, and a set of alignment marks on the mount itself helps you line up the lens appropriately.

Canon EF-S 60 mm F2.8 macro lens: Digital Photography Review
A white lens mount index differentiates the lens from other EF lenses, which retain their traditional red marking.
This makes it ideal for set ups where the lens is very close to foreground subject matter, and for use with Canon’s lens mounted macro flash systems; the MT-24EX and MR-14EX twin and ring flash units.
By optimising Super Spectra lens coatings, Canon’s engineers have been effective in suppressing flare and ghosting, which are more prone to occur with digital cameras due to the relatively reflective nature of image sensors.

The bad news is that to meter with this lens, you have to meter stopped-down, with the f/stop closed to shooting aperture.
