Searching for hits in the '70s, Leo Sayer became a tender balladeer, an Elton John wannabe, a falsetto-voiced disco crooner, and a straightforward pop "entertainer." Remarkably, Sayer was good was at everything-from the Tin Pan Alley pop to the power ballads.

After a miss with 'Why Is Everybody Going Home', Sayer reached the UK number 1 spot with 1973's exuberant 'The Show Must Go On' but immediate US success was thwarted by a chart-topping cover by Three Dog Night.
By the late 80s Sayer was bereft of a recording contract, having severed his long-standing relationship with Chrysalis Records and was reduced to self-financing his UK tours.
Indications of a revival in his chart fortunes remain to be seen; however, this artist has been written off twice before, in 1973 and 1979, and critics should not be so quick to do so again.

Leo Sayer: Reviews, Discography, Audio Clips, and more
Leo Sayer's debut album introduced a singer/songwriter (actually he wrote just the lyrics; David Courtney did the music) of some talent, though not remarkable talent.
The production screams 1973, with its mainstream pop and hard rock beds and some overlays of symphonic strings, and Sayer sometimes strongly echoes Elton John's early-'70s work, with some hints of David Bowie as well.
