Wagner was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on June 22, 1958.
Later in his career, Wagner was a respected pinch hitter, leading the AL with 46 appearances in 1968 while splitting the season between the Indians and White Sox.

Leon also dabbled in both business and acting while in LA. His clothing store, on Crenshaw Boulevard in the Leimert Park section of town (where he would die), was more noted for its come-on phrase than for its merchandise.
Wagner hated hitting at cavernous Dodger Stadium, once commenting, "this place is so big, Autry ought to use it for a ranch." During the '63 campaign, he batted.50 points higher on the road than he did at home.

As a member of the U.S. Senate from 1927 to 1949, Wagner introduced much of the crucial legislation of that period: the National Industrial Recovery Act, the Social Security Act, the National Labor Relations Act (the Wagner Act), the U.S. Housing Act of 1937 (Wagner-Steagall Housing Act) and the National Housing Act of 1938.
As one would expect, there is much on the Wagner Act, including eight corrected manuscript drafts, together with drafts of changes suggested by various government officials, including those of Frances Perkins, the then Secretary of Labor.
These papers are a perfect complement to the Wagner collection at Georgetown, and in their own right document an important period of American legislative history.

J.C. Hartman, who later played with the Houston Colt 45s and Leon Wagner, who had 211 career major league homers, were on that team.
