Savage made an appearance at TNA Victory Road and later teamed up with Jeff Hardy and A.J. Styles to defeat Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall ("The Kings of Wrestling") at TNA Turning Point, but left TNA when there was a disagreement on the finish of the next scheduled PPV.
Savage wrestled in what is widely considered to be one of the greatest matches in North American wrestling history when he faced Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat at WrestleMania III in the Pontiac Silverdome.
Savage, who would side with Hulk Hogan as a duo known as "The Mega Powers," would hold the title for almost a full year before losing it to Hogan at WrestleMania V in 1989.
