Leonard Orr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leonard Orr (born circa 1938) is an American spiritual leader best known for developing Rebirthing-Breathwork, a 'system' or technique of breathing that can help one to overcome the "trauma" of being born.
Leonard claims to have met twelve immortal yogis, including Babaji or Herakhan Baba, the Mahavatar of the Kriya Yoga lineage [brought to the West by Paramahansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi and founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship.
Leonard Orr was born in Walton New York.

Rebirthing-Breathwork - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Orr developed his process between 1962 and 1974 as he (without any (then) awareness of yoga or breathwork disciplines) discovered that modifications to breathing practices could bring about improvements in health, mental clarity and emotional well-being.
Orr, accompanied by fellow researchers, refined it into a system that can be practised in the context of a professional therapy session and taught to clients over a series of sessions, ten being the recommended minimum.
In contrast to the narrow definition of Orr's "Rebirthing-Breathwork", "rebirthing" postulates that human birth is a traumatic event.

 Interview with Leonard Orr
Orr: After watching several hundred of them, I realized that the experiences were so intense for people that they needed to have at least ten experiences before they got through the drama, the physiological-emotional drama and could rebirth themselves because people would reach a barrier and then they would back off.
Orr: Well, when a person does the connected breathing it takes them to a deep state of relaxation and then, since you understand channeling, the rebirther is also an energy channel because they have had at least ten sessions.
Orr: She was born deaf, dumb and paralyzed and was in that condition for about 20 years and then she was healed by a being which she could see and talk to and hear.

 breathing
Leonard studied Prana yoga, and in the early seventies developed a Western version that was so simple and "effective" that it became a movement that launched a thousand practitioners, probably more.
As Leonard says with an affable grin, "How to get high in 30 seconds." Leonard's technique is of course more refined, but the effect is familiar.
Leonard says one of the biggest problems he's had is with Rebirthing practitioners feeling guilty with how little they are actually doing for the money (they charge $40 to $80 for a session) and so they often add unnecessary prattle, massage, music or other effects just to make themselves feel more like experts.

Leonard Orr was born and raised in Walton, NY, a small dairy farming town in Upstate New York in the Catskill Mountains.
Orr goes on to speak of the genesis of Rebirthing and what the process is like, death as a habit, vegetarianism, living off our own breath and the Doctrine of Relativity.
Leonard believes that it is a path to becoming a conscious expression of the Eternal Spirit -- and really enjoying Life.

Leonard Orr came to the College of Metaphysics through an invitation tendered by Chancellor Daniel Condron.
In Leonard's and Rebirthing's support, and due partly to MY Rebirthing Training, I HAVE guided people into their own ability to breathe fully through stress and trauma and I know full well that it is possible, on their own.
As I believe Leonard has said before, be it birth or whatever, "you don't need the drama to work through the trauma".

 REBIRTHING
Leonard was a mystic, healer, and a teacher of Metaphysics, living in San Francisco.
His breath was also affected, but it wasn't until much later that Leonard realized that a great deal of these profound effects could be reproduced simply by breathing in a certain way, relaxing, and allowing his body to be filled with divine energy.
Leonard called his new technique Rebirthing because, in the beginning, he and many of his friends relived their births while practicing it.

'Rebirthing and Rejuvenation with Pola Churchill - Biography On Leonard Orr, Chapter 4'
After Leonard liberated himself from his death urge in 1967, he became fascinated with studying life extension, longevity and youthing, or what he calls simply the concept and practice of physical immortality; but he noticed that the authors of most of the books he had read on the subject had died.
Leonard decided from then on, not to trust anyone who taught physical immortality unless they were at least three hundred years old.
Leonard feels that, "All death is suicide, and that physical death is involuntary purification for people who don't practice it voluntarily." The idea that death is inevitable has killed more people than all other causes of death combined.

When the Orr arson case happened I had read a little about it, but not much, because I was living in San Diego at that time.
Yet, despite all the evidence at the time and the final outcome of his trials, there were still many who would not accept that "one of their own" could have committed such egregious acts.

The "thought is creative" principle as presented by Orr and Ray (1983) is also a form of tautology.
Similarly, the "thought is creative" principle may be quite true, but it is not "the absolute truth" as purported by Orr and Ray, certainly not because of the logic they suggest.
Another practical application of the "thought is creative" principle involves looking for so called "personal law." Orr (1998) defines personal law as "a thought which controls our mind and life more than any other thought." (P.40).

 Rebirthing Main...
Leonards knowledge and experience of metaphisics helped him formulate the grounds and philosophy from which contemporary Rebirthing or Conscious breathing has grown.
By the mid 70's Leonard had over 15 years of personal experience in the world of "healing", Spiritual purification and the use of the breath to bring peace and integration to his consciousness.
The term Rebirthing was originally coined as a result of the connection between the breath and its rythmymic nature during a session, the early use of red wood hotubs, and the common exprience of many to remember some or all of there birth experience.

In connecting with his birth moment, Orr identified primal thought/feelings that he correlated to the negative experiences in his life as an adult.
Because Orr's first encounter with Rebirthing had taken place when nearly submerged, he began using that as part of the method, and the earliest rebirthings were undertaken in hot tubs.
While Leonard Orr first experienced Rebirthing as a spontaneous event, the effectiveness is exponential when guided by a Professional Rebirther.
